  3. An apparently impossible VAT question

Thank you so much for this. Believe me, I have asked for help both from the department with which I am working (HQ Geneva) and the German WHO, their response to consultants is singularly reluctant, if I get a response at all.    I would appreciate any help you can give.    Best to take this offline now. I am happy to set anything out that is helpful but not on a public forum, obviously.    you can use chrisatguileshill@gmail.com

  7. Reason of applying to German citizenship

Luke's suggestion is a very good one. I might use that if needed.     Yep murphaph, I was aware of that. But as bramble mentioned, there are some exceptions for Brazil with which one can get away with keeping the Brazilian citenzship. Eg, from what I read/heard, Brazil doesn't allow the loss of citizenship in case one's applying for a second citizenship in order to excercise basic civil rights which only the citizenship can grant. I coule state voting as one of them.   (Source: https://www.dw.com/pt-br/%C3%A9-poss%C3%ADvel-perder-a-cidadania-brasileira/a-42603277 - in pt-BR. I'll leave it here as a reference in case someone bumps into the post in the future)   But again, that's still a bit fuzzy to me and I just have to find out exactly what write in the application forms as reason why I can't renounce my current citizenship (still looking into it).   Btw, thanks bramble for that link and info! I haven't seen it before. I'll take a look.
  8. What do you want, not be resident in the UK, or not to deregister from Germany?   HMRC says that if you spend most of your time in the UK, then you are resident there, and as a consequence you must pay taxes there. Perhaps there are exceptions I don't know about, but I doubt.   I also know people who leave Germany and deliberately do not do Abmeldung.
  9. Things to ponder

I mention my gay daughter (who has a gay wife - funny how it works out that way!) in casual conversation with people. With the TV cable person, it's 'My daughter and her wife got me the TV'; with the yard maintenance guys, it's 'My daughter and her wife planted -X- for me.' Why do I bring it up? Because the more people hear that gay folks have lives beyond sexual activity, that they have their own families and cares, the more accepting they are. They see I'm not embarrassed to have family members who bend in other directions, and they begin to realize it just isn't a big deal. I don't mean I forget my daughter and DIL are gay. They are - it's part of their identity. It's like saying to your Black coworker, 'I don't think of you as Black.' You can bet your coworker does, and that what you think is a complimentary statement is really an insulting remark.
  10. Why are you happy today?

He's very brave. He's probably making himself very unpopular, but this cracking down is what is needed to get the message home to these people.

  13. How to resign!

I resigned a few months ago and even though I had a much longer notice period (3 months). I still gave them a few extra weeks of notice, essentially as soon as I had signed my new contract. I worked in a smaller team so not the same situation, but they definitely appreciated the extra time and gave me an excellent reference letter at the end.

How beautiful is this corn...   not genetically modified.   Pre-colonization Glass Gem Corn, Indigenous to North America, regrown by a Cherokee farmer in Oklahoma. This particular corn is a mix of ancient Pawnee, Osage and Cherokee varieties.
  17. Outdoor lighting - do solar lights really work?

There are different levels of brightness. I'm small, most people are taller than me, and I wear it around my neck pointing downwards towards the ground.
  18. Stamping Passports post-Brexit

Excellent. But i would remove your post quick. Discrétion...
  20. Then you had better remain VAT-charging. And you are opening a whole new can of worms, since Amazon will push you to FBA (fulfilment by Amazon) which means that you have your items in Amazon's warehouses and they merriley shift them between their warehouse in different EU countries, which means that you will need to register for VAT in all these countries. People usually use a service like Avalara to create the VAT announcements in all these countries.   You sound naive: selling on Amazon is not something you should do lightly. Start of reading here: https://www.quaderno.io/blog/how-to-handle-eu-vat-if-you-use-amazon-fba
  21. No smoke without fire. Number 10 did not flat out deny the conversation took place.   It's hardly an unlikely request as it looks like GB may not have enough fuel to bring the turkeys to the slaughterhouse, enough carbon dioxide to stun the turkeys when they are there, enough butchers to process them, enough HGV drivers to bring them to the supermarkets and people may not be able to afford the gas to cook them anyway.
  22. What's the issue with dual nationality?
