  2. The War in Ukraine

German radio claimed 10,000 out 50,000 Wagner troops remain (as in 20%). The other 40,000 are said to have been killed, wounded, captured or plain deserted. Small wonder with mercs recruited from Russian prisons... the radio also claimed new labor  camps would be opened on Russian occupied Ukranian territory, and Wagner would recruit mercenaries there.
  3. Only in America

The cops seem overly aggressive from the get go. Drag him out of the car. Yelling at him to lay on the ground while kind of preventing him from complying the way the are holding onto him. They taze him, then  pepperspray him and themselves and then he flees. He probably thought they were going to kill him anyway. Apparently these cops had already hat complaints made against them for brutality.
  4. Registration of new members - waiting time?

Or...and I'm just spitballing here...maybe the folks you claim have no lives have more money and hence more free time.   Anyhoo, there is also much to be said regarding the fact that nearly every social media outlet has a ban-dodger death penalty.    Oh, and forced forgiveness (or insinuating that forgiveness makes the forgiver a better person) diminishes harms and wrongs, which inhibits the safety of the wronged party. Repeating wrong behavior and then acting as if it's no longer the perpetrator's fault because xyz issue is (temporarily) resolved is a sign that future harm can be predicted. Nip that shit in the bud, bubba.
  5. The contributions you pay to the KSK go to three different things: public health insurance (Krankenkasse, e.g. TK, AOK, Barmer, etc.), long-term care insurance through the Krankenkasse, and the German pension plan. The KSK itself doesn't hold any of your contributions. The first two are insurances that don't accumulate, so the monthly premiums you pay for those go to your Krankenkasse and are gone, they're spent, you don't get them back. That accounts for around half of your contributions.   The pension is the national German pension fund, the Deutsche Rentenversicherung. You should have received documentation from them in the mail. It's not specific only to artists. The KSK makes the equivalent of employer contributions to your pension on top of the ones you make. But other than that, it's a normal German pension plan, like most other people have. If you leave the KSK and get a job in Germany, you and your employer will still make contributions to that same pension plan.   If you live in Germany for less than five years, you can claim your pension contributions back when you leave. After five years, you can't anymore, but you will be eligible for pension payouts when you reach the retirement age, even if you don't live in Germany anymore. You can search for more information about that.

  9. German inheritance to ex-pat German in the USA

Thank you Lenny,   The associates are genealogists according to a brochure that my friend had included, which for some strange reason I was not able to upload with my query.  I too am of the opinion that this is a legitimate proposal but definitely further research is required.
  10. Amazon deny refund - stolen/lost item

This is not helpful at all but it appears someone nicked a broken phone. It wouldn't charge so there's that.   Be persistent and I hope you get a full refund. That's helluva lot of money for a phone.    I'm 65 and just bought my very first new phone. Samsung for € 349.
  11. Interrupting my sublet contract earlier

The landlord is legally required to pay your deposit into a separate account (google "Kautionskonto"). Therefore, you shouldn't have to worry about him keeping it even though you fulfilled your obligations  (unless he acts fraudulently, in which case you could obviously sue him). However, it may take 6-12 months until you'll get it back (counting from the end of your lease).
  12. Hello,   Thank you so much for your answer! Very appreciated!   best, Christine
  13. What made you smile today?

Well, that aged well...   Television frontman Tom Verlaine dies at 73   Totally gutted. Marquee Moon is still one of my top 5 albums of all times.     One of the greatest guitar solos of all time starts at 4:27 and builds, and builds, and builds. The whole song is worth a listen, as indeed, is the whole album.   @mods: I have no idea how to quote from one thread to another, otherwise I would have done so. Feel free to move/delete as you see fit.
  14. Areas of Hamburg?

  15. Hi All,   I was employed in Germany from 2018 to 31.07.2022. After that, I moved to Zurich and I am working here.   I have to do a tax 2022 declaration for Germany. Should I declare my income in Zurich? If so why? I don't want to do that. Can authorities see my income in Zurich?    Thanks
  16. Bacon Bacon Bacon!

It´s bacon, just not as we know it. Has anybody tried making their own bacon? It´s easy enough. I generally take a slab of pork containing the back and belly, then debone it (that is where you get your ribs from) Then there are two methods to curing, either dry or wet. Some people say that dry curing is best, but I prefer wet curing in a Saurkraut Topf, then after three weeks in the brine smoke it, in a smoker (have to mention that because somebody will try to set it alight) Or alternative, ask your local butcher to make englisch bacon. Ours does. Nice thick sliced, smoky bacon with egg and bean and HP sauce.

  24. Jokes

Ever since I was a child, I’ve always had a fear of someone under my bed at night. So I went to a Psychiatrist and told him I’ve got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there’s somebody under it. I’m scared. I think I’m going crazy. "Just put yourself in my hands for one year," said the psychiatrist. "Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears." "How much do you charge?" "Eighty dollars per visit," replied the doctor. "I’ll sleep on it and if needed I will come back to you," I said. Six months later the Psychiatrist met me on the street. "Why didn’t you come to see me about those fears you were having?" he asked. "Well, Eighty bucks a visit three times a week for a year is an awful lot of money! A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought me a new SUV." "Is that so!" With a bit of an attitude, he said, "and how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?" "He told me to cut the legs off the bed – ain’t nobody under there now!"
