I know this is kind of a broad question & I am going to get bombarded with the "we can't help you unless we know blah blah..." stuff, but I will ask anyway. Does anyone know about any volunteer opportunities in Munich? Usually at home there were tons of things mentioned on the local news or through my old company. I don't know where to look here. I am open to different ideas, except probably nothing politics or environment related.
Hmm, there was a discussion about this before with some general ideas... See: homeless shelters
All right do-gooders of Gotham city...I've struck out on finding volunteer opportunities in Munich. However, have registered with the UN Online Volunteer Organization (UNOV). Basically its a clearing house for UN offices needing volunteers as well as all sorts of different charities. On the positive side, you can select: the number of hours, the working language, the projects as well as the regions and charities that you want to support. On the negative side, its all done remotely...likely no face-to-face interaction which IMHO is a major part of real time volunteering. All said though, its and outlet to help others and doing it all via pc means you can squeeze it in between TTing, gaming, internet dating, e-baying, job searching and whatever *ing. Public Service Announcement: The charities themselves are screened via an application process by the UN but I'd check them out carefully yourself if you're signing up for one of the long term or fundraising jobs. Edit: "registered" means have user name and log in...have not yet done any charitable acts, am hoping that masses of TTers will take over thus earning me some halo points...pyramid scheme style...so er, if any of yous guys goes for it lemme know!
I have tried to find vol work myself before - it was very discouraging. Most make you feel they are doing you a tremendous favour for considering you to work for them for free. So please don't feel weird when that happens to you. But maybe you can try this neighborhood community center in Schwabing wíth a pretty garden, and they are looking for people who want to do volunteer gadening in fall - the number is - 089-333-139... margret
hmm you could volunteer at the organization i am doing my internship at.. its called earthlink e.V. an environmental protectiona gency but they also do stuff about child labor and stuff like that. my internship was basically more like volunteer work cuz it was very flexible (some ppl only came 2x a week) u can come and go when u please pretty much, and its just really laid back. anyway the website is www.earthlink.de and just send them an email... u don't need to speak german either cuz pretty much everyone speaks english. let me know if u want anymore info!
I've found two projects always looking for volunteers who they would train as well, one being www.asb-muenchen.de, that's a sorta red-cross organization and they look after old people (even stuff like just reading the newspaper to them or going shopping for them), and www.bib-ev.org who help mentally and physically challenged kids.
You can volunteer to tidy my flat if you like!
Actually I know of an address; It is Kidlerstr. 34, Tel. (089) 776281 Implerstr. U-Bahn or 31 Bus from Sendlinger Tor
Anyone have more details on the Volunteer Fair coming up this month.. (24th September 2004???).. if so, please let me know. Thanks.
Under what circumstances does one want or indeed find the time to do volunteer work? Is it something that one would do at the weekends or is it that you don't need to work and are just looking for a worthy way of filling your time. I'm just curious.
There are lots of different reasons to volunteer. Here's a list of some reasons I've done volunteer work in the past. Fill time Earn "money" as a kid, (some volunteer work is paid an honourarium) Meet people Get work experience Get more deeply involved in something you enjoy doing already Give something back to your community/the world in general Finding time is easy, if you want to.
I do volunteer work because I'm here with my husband and I don't have a work permit. It's nice to do something productive instead of just spending every afternoon at a cafe with friends.
Altruistic philanthropy, Keydeck. The soup kitchen sounds like my bag; at the end of the day, I'd rather be remembered for helping to feed some needy people than helping investors get fantastic ROI on their ecommerce portal. Since some folks think my time is worth a bit of change, I prefer to spend some of that time helping charitable causes (e.g. I don't want to just write checks for donations). Meeting people is also on my list of reasons, too.
There was a very interesting article on volunteering that appeared in the Munich Found magazine sometime ago. Here is the link: Time Sharing I am personally involved with a few of the organizations mentioned. Hope this helps!
Does anyone have any info about voluntary work for non-German speakers. I know already about English Speaking Prisoners Support Group and about The Bookshelf but any others ideas or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Topic merged by admin.
