Sphere 2003 (Olafur Eliasson)
Sphere 2003 is a sculpture by artist Olafur Eliasson. It is located in the Viscardihof in Munich's Fünf Höfe. The sculpture is a huge spiral ball suspended above the center of the courtyard. It consists of a dense network of 14cm-wide highly polished stainless steel strips, superimposed in a spiral. The ball is open at the poles so if you stand directly below you can see open sky above. The smooth surface of the bands reflects the light such that the ball changes color slightly according to the weather and time of day.
Olafur Eliasson was born in Copenhagen and lives in Berlin.
