Spandau Prison was a prison situated in the district of Spandau. After World War II it housed the Nazi war criminals that had been sentenced to imprisonment at the Nuremberg Trials. For over 20 years the sole prisoner was Rudolf Hess. He died there in 1987. The prison was then demolished, largely to prevent it from becoming a Neo-Nazi shrine. The grounds are occupied by a NAAFI shopping centre.
