Snowkiting spots near Munich

This page lists all popular snowkiting spots near Munich, including those up to four hours away from the city, throughout Bavaria, the rest of Germany, and Austria. Munich

Munich itself isn't very good for snowkiting, mostly due to lack of snow and wind. On the rare occasion when both conditions are right, some popular spots are:

Kieferngarten, on the hill next to the Allianz Arena
Panzerwiese - in winter kiting is tolerated, might be problems in summer though
Unterbiberg
Neubiberg - Former military airfield (same as unterbiberg?)

Holzkirchen

Holzkirchen is 35 km or 30 minutes drive south of Munich. The spot itself is about 2 km SSW of Holzkirchen, on the #13 road to Bad Tölz, see Google Map. See the weather on: Yahoo!. Nearby school: FlyArt.

Farchant

Thalgau

Thalgau (Flachau, Salzburg) - Austrians are planing to make this area a real dreamland for Snowkiter from all over the world. Hochfilzen

Hochfilzen / Pillerseetal - in Austria, near Fieberbrunn, just east of St. Johann. Google Map and photo album. 128 km from Munich – about 1 hour 41 mins. snowkite.eu. Der kiteplatz liegt in hochfilzen. Spot direkt neben dem Hotel Edelweiß und besteht aus einer gewalzten Piste für die ersten „Gehversuche“ im Snowkiten sowie aus einem unpräparierten Teil für genussvolles Powderkiten. Hochfilzen liegt auf 1000 Metern Seehöhe im Tiroler Pillerseetal nahe Fieberbrunn und Kitzbühel und bietet die erforderliche Wind- und Schneesicherheit. Obertauern

Obertauern is in Salzburger Land, Austria - Place of a recent annual World Championchips. The resort has it own dedicated snowkite area. It's just upwind of a busy piste and is sometimes also used to teach total beginner skiers to snowplough. On one side there are some power lines (I assume they're not live, but can't be sure) and on the other side there is a road and some hotels. When I saw it, I couldn't believe that it was used to teach people to snowkite. 2 hours 15 mins from Munich. Drive past salzburg, past st. Johann. Andechs - ist meist schon schnell wind wenn in herrsching noch keien liegt.

Fischbachau - 4km vom Spitzing weg is Fischbachau, und da in der Nähe is ne Wiese auf der ich Kiten gehe, Schnee liegt, der Wind frei hin kann, nicht zu klein ist

bin vor ein paar Jahren mal am Platt gefahren. Kannst Du aber vergessen.Geht nur bei Süd so halbwegs. Extrem böige Verhältnisse, macht echt keinen Spaß.
