There are four offical Rugby League Clubs in Germany:

There are now eight German Schools that are playing Rugby League. Uwe Jansen from Heidelberg is the National Trainer while Leo Berngruber is the current Captain of the side and is from Bad Bad Reichenhall.Heidelberg Sharks also have a Junior setup as well as an adult team. History

Although the game was formed in 1895 its only since 2005 that Rugby League is in Germany. München RLFC played in the first ever German domestic game going down 72-64 in Heidelberg in a 9 a side game on 23 July 2005. A 9 a side Alpines

To watch live Rugby League on the Television from Australia and Europe in Munich its best to visit the following:

Basic rules of 13-a-side Rugby League

  • 2 teams of 13 with 4 on the bench
  • game lasts 2 x 40 Minutes
  • 1 Referee and 2 linesmen tho many amateur games have no linesmaen
  • Try- Placing the ball over the opponents line is worth 4 points
  • Conversion- Kicking the ball through the "H" after a try scored is 2 points
  • Goal-Team can elect to kick for goal from a penalty and if successful 2 Points
  • Field Goal- Team can elect to drop kick the ball through the "H" is 1 Point
  • No passing forward
  • Player drops the ball and goes forward its a scrum where the 6 Forwards from each team come together and push for the ball tho scrums are usually uncontested.
  • Tackle a player by hands only bringing him to the ground
  • No tackles above the shoulder
  • Can Body Check but only player with the ball
  • The defending team MUST get back 10 Metres tho 2 markers must stand square at the play the ball
