Renewing a Residence Permit
For EU citzens the law has changed since 1st Jan 2005 about getting a Residence Permit!
You need passport and old permit. You do not need photographs, money, anything else at all.
You go to Poccistrasse (which as we all know is in fact in Ruppertstrasse) to the Ausländerbehörde (first floor). Current opening times from their website:
Monday 8.00 - 12.00 Tuesday 8.00 - 12.00, 14.00 - 18.30 Wednesday closed Thursday 8.00 - 12.00 Friday 7.00 - 12.00
You wander along the corridor until you find the round information desk corresponding the initial letter of your surname, where they give you a numbered ticket. When this number appears on the wall display you go to the room number shown.
You tell them what you want, a "Bescheinigung über das Aufenthaltsrecht" (certification of the right of abode, or something similar). They give you a green sheet to fill out there and then - all the info you need is the really difficult stuff like name, date of birth etc.
You show them your passport and hand in your old permit. They give you a green A4 sheet that says you have the right to exist in Germany. For ever.
As a resident foreigner your required ID here is your passport and your Aufenthaltserlaubnis or genehmigung. Not being in posession of your ID (both parts) at any time in a public place is an offence.
If you lost any or both parts you must report the loss to the Police immediately (well, withgin 7 days). They'll provide a form certifying the registration of the loss which acts as an interim document pending your getting a replacement, which you should get as soon as possible, and in any case (at least apply for) within 14 days.
Change Address or Residency / Umzug / Moving Home inside of Munich
You can change your address registered with the Kreisverwaltungsreferat via mail. There should be two pdf's available from the Munich website, one is the actual form and the other is a guide in how to fill in the form.
