Missing Image
Missing Image was a high quality DVD rental shop on Adalbert Strasse in Schwabing.
Update: In April 2008 they announced that they were closing for good.

According to the manifesto on their website:
"There is no future for video stores - we know. But we are bored by these automata which are popping up like weeds and dumping prices with a handful of lousy blockbusters. Amongst the omnipresent homogeny we decided that something was missing."
What they are trying to say is that most DVD hire stores in Munich carry 50% porn and 50% blockbuster trash. Missing Image, however, only stocks high quality films. At last count (September 2006) their collection numbered 3,500 titles continues to grow rapidly. They focus on rare and forthcoming films including Russian and Asian as well as English language indies and classics.
Missing Image was opened mid-August 2004 in Munich. The store is run by Harry, Hias, and Annett. These guys are three friends who used to work at Millions of Images but left when that store relocated to the
Amerika Haus.
They have DVD rentals for €3 per night.

my roomie is a member there, and they have this offer where you can take 5 movies for 6 six days for 15 EUR, which brings the cost down to 50 cent per movie over night. I wonder how they survive with offers like that, it´s much cheaper that those machines. you don´t have to hurry and go on a movie marathon, just sit and relax. and oh yeah, great selection, too. - Posted by: david at November 9, 2004
