Gärtnerplatz
Gärtnerplatz is situated in the
Glockenbachviertel, an area of
Munich known to be favoured by homosexuals and by all for going out in, shopping at the 'gay-friendly' shops and hairdressers (look out for the little rainbow flags in the shop windows!) and also to live in. Apparently
Freddie Mercury used to live in the GBV. Controversially, this area is now becoming 'young, hip and trendy', with more and more heterosexuals moving in.
Gärtnerplatz is actually a roundabout where
Klenzestraße,
Corneliusstraße and
Reichenbachstraße meet. There are benches, stretches of grass and flowerbeds as well as a fountain in the middle, so you often see sunbathers catching a few rays. The
Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz is the well-known state theatre.
