Ellipsis
Ellipsis refers to the row of three dots (…) or (...) indicating an intentional omission in writing. An ellipsis can also be used to indicate a pause in speech or, at the end of a sentence, a trailing off into silence.
This punctuation mark is also called a suspension point, points of ellipsis, or dot-dot-dot.
TT punctuation pedants refer to it as dot-dot-dot-evil.
The ellipsis is frequently overused in online chat. In fact, so chronic was the over-use problem on the TT
chat forum that the software has now been configured to allow no more than three consecutive periods to be posted.
