Chav
Chav is a slang term in wide use throughout the United Kingdom since 2004. It refers to a subcultural stereotype of people fixated on fashions such as flashy fake jewelry and fake designer clothing with the beige Burberry pattern.
The most famous clothing item is the Burberry baseball cap which has since been discontinued by the company. Other brands of clothing favoured by chavs are Lonsdale, Berghaus, Burberry, Von Dutch, Louis Vuitton, Stone Island, Adidas, Nike, Lacoste, and Sergio Tacchini.
Response to the term "chav" has ranged from amusement to criticism that it is a new manifestation of classism.
Note that a chav is not to be confused with a
pikey.
