Barbers
There are a couple of barbers in the central railway station (
Hauptbahnhof). One is underneath the Deutsche Bahn area opposite a small supermarkt, and another is near the
FC Bayern fan shop. I think one of them is Turkish. Both are OK and pretty cheap. If you ask them they will do the "number 3 on the back and sides please, mate". Assuming that that is what you want. Though I don't know if they speak the lingo. Does it matter? All hairdressers just do what they want anyway. We worked out last time that 12mm is roughly a number 3.
Good Turkish barbers in
Pestalozzistraße. From
Sendlinger Tor, walk down
Müllerstraße then turn right into Pestalozzistrasse and it's on the left after about 100m. Don't need to book, friendly cheerful people, quick and cheap. A decent cut will cost about €8. There are normally at least 4 barbers working.
A near thing to a British-type barber in Munich is situated not far from
Max Weber Platz. It is in the
Max-Planck-Straße 8 (just about opposite
McDonalds) and is the habitat of one
Martin Papendorf. Telephone 089 477318.
When you are ready for the best though expensive (€40) haircut in town go see
Robert at Bash. The man is a genius. Telephone 089 267155.
There are two decent places in
Schwabing - one on
Türkenstraße, south of the intersection with
Schellingstraße, that doubles up as an antiques shop believe it or not, it has a Wella sign outside, and one on
Georgenstraße just before you reach
Arcis Straße on the left hand side. Both are about 15 eurines a cut. Then there's the new place on
Barer Straße (south of
Blütenstraße) where bloke's cuts are 8 eurines. Currently open Tuesday-Friday 9-18 and Saturday 9-14.
If you're desperate for an english speaking barber/hairdresser, try
Salon Karin on
Sendlinger Straße. I got a really good cut there by a Canadian guy. Being a native English speaker you'll get the cut you ask for, but it is well expensive. That was a couple of years ago so I don't know if he's still there.
There's a guy in
Rotkreutzplatz,
Carlos. He's a really funny guy, too. (in a good way) .
The place in the underground between
Hertie and
Karlsplatz. I've gone there the last couple of times and been well sorted. 18 Euro and no problem with English.
Downstairs in
Hertie. Not bad but you tend to have to wait for quite a while and you can't make an appointment.
Little place on
Bergmannstraße. The gorgeous
Sharina (I presume it's a stage name because Sharon is a good hairdresser name) speaks very good English and will sort you out in no time.
It will run you 35 Euros for a cut, but I highly recommend
Igor at the
Hair Gott (www.hairgott.de) on
Schellingstraße (
Schwabing). He speaks enough English to be able to figure out what you want, and does an amazing job.
Try
Toni and Guy at
Frauenstraße 44 - I can recommend Steffi - who saved what was left of my hair following a NIGHTMARE hair cut. However, it doesn't come cheap!
J7 (www.j-7.de) a chain but a good one, very good for the curly haired. They speak English, German, and Spanish.
Hermann-Ling-Straße. Telephone 089 51619832.
Rosemary @
Steven Wade,
Theresienstraße 81, 528015 www.stephenwadehaircutters.com she's from Stratford upon Avon, does a great cut, tends to change salon a lot though.
Manuela @
Hair and Soul, Elixia West nr.
Donnersbergerbrücke Tel 51088889. They are open on a Monday (shock), she doesn't speak that much English but is a wonder (and very good for the money).
Hagel Hairshop,
Kreuzstraße 4. I don't know the name of the woman who cut my hair, but she was quite good--very friendly and she did an excellent job. I was a bit hesitant as this was my first haircut in Munich, and I don't know much German, but the hairdresser at Hagel made me feel comfortable. I will definitely go back. Kreuzstrasse is centrally located; about a 2 min walk from Marienplatz. Tel.: 089-242 23466. http://www.hagel-hairshop.de/
I just had a very precise haircut from Thuy
Thuy's Hair and Nail Friseur Salon As I did not make an appointment, I had to wait a while. This is very near the Goetheplatz U3/U6 stop. Open M-F 900 - 1900, Sat 900 - 1700. My cut was 9 Euro. She does not speak any English. Tel. 600 37 113
Kapuzinerstrasse 8. I will be back there.
