See TT's advertised supplier: Mik Dikinson's British-style bacon in Munich
US-North American style bacon (streaky) is available in most grocery stores. British people want what's called Danish bacon. Available at all quality butchers. In German it's called "geräuchertes Wammerl" (write it on a piece of paper and bring it if you can't pronounce it) and get it sliced to order. AKA Frühstückspeck.
Metzgerei Boneberger , Großhadernerstr. 2 minutes walk from Großhadern U-Bahn. Go to the meat counter (not the deli) and ask for englisches bacon. The head butcher will know exactly what you mean and ask "how thick?". They do gammon steaks as well. You gotta ask for "Geräuchertes Wammerl". I get it cut 5mm thick.
Haven't checked recently, but you certainly used to be able to buy pre-packed Danish bacon rashers at the food hall of the Galeria Kaufhof
Last time i looked in Hertie there was bacon to the left of the meat counter in the sliced meats and assorted sausage section. It is packaged, but no thick stuff and no danish stuff.
The Danish stuff is to be found in Galeria Kaufhof, BUT you must remember, its quite rare, so people like me go in and buy the entire stock. Also, they have recently been selling turkeys, so people may have bought shedloads of the stuff to wrap over the breast. Even the foodhall at Kaufhof, which is the closest thing I can find to an acceptable supermarket still has problems with keeping stock levels and demand in check.
I saw 3 different types today in Kaufhof. Herta "Breakfast bacon" which is pretty bad, and two Danish bacons, back and streaky. There was loads. It was down by the meat section at the back, with the packeted hams and salami, opposite where all the packeted fresh meats are.
I hate to recommend Tengelmann, but they have a ready stock of Danish bacon in packets. Well they do in Haidhausen. The Tengelmanns bacon is useable in an emergency but it´s vacuum packed and slips out covered in watery preservative.
Danish Tulip back bacon, for 1.75€ a pack. here: http://www.doit24.de/ then look under fleish und wurst, then select wurst and there it is.
