Ammersee

Ammersee is a popular lake situated approximately 35km south-west of Munich. With a surface area of some 47 square kilometres, it counts as one of Germany's five largest lakes. Its maximum depth is 80 metres. The main resort on the lake's shores is Herrsching am Ammersee.

Like the other Bavarian lakes, Ammersee was created by glaciers melting at the end of the last ice age. The river flowing from the lake is the Amper, which joins the Isar some 185km later in the town of Moosburg.

Regular Toytown sailing trips are organised in summer on the lake. See the Sunday sailing thread for details.
