Posted by: "Anonymous" at 3:29 pm on 15.May.2006That's really misleading to say it's a traditional bavarian beer hall. It has a restaurant and function rooms but no bier fest tables indoors like, say the Hofbrauhaus. The restaurant is frequented by prominent/schicky micky people and it's not unusual to see a Maybach parked outside. The Wawi is also known as "The Jazz Beer Garden" because of the bandstand and live music throughout the day in the large beer garden. Leave Munich behind and cycle down the Isar to this place. It's a popular place to go on to on your bike from Munich because of the picturesque scenery on the way. (It'll take you longer to get back after a maß or 2!!) My future ex girlfriend works here, as have a lot of Irish, aussies, brits etc. No one I know that worked there has a good word to say about the owner, Sepp Kratz who is a well known character. He also owns the Andechs Am Dom and the Hippodrom at the Wiesn.
Posted by: Jeckel at 12:21 pm on 16.May.2006Take a look at who runs/owns the place and that might account for the Maybachs and Uber BMW's parked out in from of the place. Sepp Kratz also owns/opperates the Andescher Am Dom down by the Frauenkirke next door to the Augustiner. And that you might already know as a hub for the schicky/micky crowd. I think i even saw a picture inside there of Sepp with Pradraig Harrington...........try and figure that one

Posted by: "Anonymous" at 5:46 am on 19.May.2006We have always loved this place and visit regularly when the weather is fine. However, last weekend we arrived on our bikes, sat to listen to the band and drink our beer. We both felt the beer was ‘wrong’. One Weiss and one Helles – both disappointing. I am not saying they were watered down because surely that could not happen. But they were both rather lack lustre. Next step was the half chicken. The man behind the counter was putting fresh raw chickens in the oven, he did that turned around and went straight to serve me. I suggested he wash his hands. He gave me a filthy look (rather like his hands) wiped his hands on a cloth attached to his apron and carried on! So come on the WaWi; smarten up your act!!
