Vinorant Alter Hof - Munich

Vinorant Alter Hof - Alter Hof 3, 80331 Munich, Germany

This is a newly opened restaurant (sometime late 2003) located in the very center of Munich, just off Marienhof behind the townhall. The main restaurant is upstairs whilst downstairs there is a wine bar.

Judging from the extravagant stone archways and the burning torches at the entrance you'd imagine this to be some swanky expensive restaurant. Well, it's very nice that's for sure, but definitely not expensive. The starters are between ?6 and ?9 each and the main courses are just ?8 to ?14.

The cuisine is north Bavarian. There is Maultaschen, Truffel risotto, fish (Wallerfilet, Seesaibling, Zanderfilet), and much more. Quite a variety in fact - although there are only one or two Vegetarian dishes.

Just to say thank you very much to the chef who cut my wife's food up for her on Saturday 11th February. She has no hands but it doesn't stop her enjoying good food and what we ate was certainly that. We will recommend you to all of our friends from Liverpool, Enland. Once again many thanks and may your buisness flourish evermore

They have a non-smoking zone too. And are doing a Dine in the Dark event in March 2007 -- toytowngermany.com/forum/?showtopic=59209 -- I haven't been yet, but I'm going!

Four of us ate here recently and were all impressed by the food. The buffalo mozzarella starter was delicious as was the Zander. The fixed menu was €23 which was great value and included ravioli with beef, chicken with risotto and dessert. Venison was well cooked and the suggested wines really did complement the different foods. Beware of the enormous cheeseboard! The restaurant itself has a great ambience and the staff were pleasant.

Not sure if I would ever equate good food, good service, clean facility to anything in or around Munich. Wow, your standards are definitely lower than mine.
