Victorian House - Frauenstr. 14, Munich, Germany
A traditional English tea house. They serve all kinds of afternoon tea as well as scones with clotted cream. Note, the Victorian House has two sister outlets called The Sconery which is in the nearby Fünf Höfe and Brown's Tea Shop which is in Schwabing.

Had afternoon tea here last Sunday. Very nice and typically English. Finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and a cup of tea.

Posted by: "Anonymous" at 10:45 am on 29.Sep.2003I went to the Victorian House today and asked if they have a Sunday roast on the menu... they don't. They can arrange it if a large group goes and asks beforehand, otherwise it's a no-no.
Posted by: UrbanAngel at 8:21 am on 14.Feb.2004Before ordering a scone (and getting the correct pronunciation from my british companions), I asked how big they would be. I was hoping at 4 a pop, they would be the size of grapefruits (and I was reminded of every other time I ate a scone: dry to the bone! Please let this one be worth it!). Much to my dismay, they were not (big that is). A small pot of tea, a horribly overpriced bagel sandwich and a scone left all left an 17 hole in my pocket. Aside from this, it was fantastic. Discovered my new favorite tea though "Lady Grey". Fazit: Cozy, tasty scones and snacks. Highly overpriced.
Posted by: "Ella" at 4:51 pm on 17.Feb.2004The service is great and they speak English, of course. The food is delicous and the prices are very reasonable. They are never crowded during lunch time. I went there for a 4 hour lunch recently and had a great time. Their scones with clotted cream are delicious too. Well, it's hard to get scones in Munich, so they're good for Munich standards. Visit their "take out" placed called The Sconery in the Funfhoff near Odeansplatz.
Posted by: Malinee at 5:27 pm on 18.Jun.2004Wonderful to find the old Victorian tea houses still out there, puzzled as to why somebody would be asking for a Sunday roast? I have a copy of 'Mrs. Beeton's Household Management' and nowhere in it does it list such a thing for tea. During the Victorian era, breakfast was a large meal, to get you started with the day. Second came luncheon, also a large meal. Third came tea, which was mainly a ladies time with friends, which could also be a picnic. Fourth came dinner, which was the largest meal of the day with many courses. Finally they had supper before retiring to bed. So please keep up the good work, and stick to the proper Victorian tea's.
Posted by: "shirley" at 7:47 am on 27.Jul.2005I'm English and have to say I was not impressed with the VH's scones...they were too small and overpriced...clotted cream was great though! you can also buy clotted cream at Kaufhof and at the VH's small cafe in the 5 Hofe. scones are so easy to make...try them yourself: www.hookerycookery.com/biscuit016.htm nice idea about Sunday Dinner Urban Angel! yum...am daydreaming about yorkshire puddings now!
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 8:57 am on 28.Jul.2005A fourth branch of this tea shop will be opening late November 2005. It will be called "Klenze" and located at the Alte Pinakothek in Maxvorstadt (possibly Türkenstrasse).
Posted by: "Editor Bob" at 8:29 am on 14.Nov.2005Isn't there a bar already with that name? I think you can get good chili there and now scones. Um, yummy.
Posted by: "Ella Star" at 10:26 am on 14.Nov.2005There's a bar called Klenze 17, but it's not the same place. The new tea house is simply called "Klenze". No number after the name.
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 10:36 am on 14.Nov.2005I find the scones miserable, but the cakes are luscious: try the mosist carrot cake at Brown's!
Posted by: Pink Jello at 10:30 am on 20.Nov.2005Oops, I meant try the "moist" carrot cake at Brown's!
Posted by: Pink Jello at 10:32 am on 20.Nov.2005Decided to have Eggs Benedict on Saturday here. I was impressed by the separate non-smoking section. Perhaps I was lucky, but I felt I got transported out of Germany because the air was so smoke-free. The tea was great, and the meal was right on.
Posted by: "AnthonyInEurope" at 12:59 pm on 5.Dec.2005The scones are sadly just heated frozen ones which is pretty shoddy if ask me. The Roast beef sarn is a good one though.
Posted by: "Frank Rosanand" at 1:29 pm on 5.Dec.2005I must agree that the scones had seen better days, was quite disapointed when I had one a few days ago, so dry!!Hope one of the VH guys reads this to improve their quality!!! Better go for the chicken-avocado-peanutbutter-chilli sandwich, also the Kensington benedicts are recommendable.
Posted by: "ms" at 5:11 pm on 16.Feb.2006I have only gone for breakfast, and love the eggs benedict. Slightly overpriced, but a nice change from the usual German breakfast options, in a very cozy atmosphere with a smoke free section.
