Unionsbräu - Munich

Unionsbräu - Einsteinstr. 42, 81675 Munich, Germany

Solid Bavarian restaurant and Wirtshaus in Haidhausen; belongs to the Löwenbräu Group. They offer 2 kinds of home-brewed beer (Helles and Dunkles), both really recommendable. Food is rather pricy but sincere and big portioned.

The clientele is mixed, with a light prevalence of older people and groups of “rough and tough” Bavarians. In summer a small and cosy biergarten is available into the inner court. They have also different rooms and spaces, available for rent (e.g. at the first floor or in the cellar). Recommended to those who like straight german food.

Finally tried this place last night, meeting a group from a German speaking forum (ich bin fremd gegangen!). Anyone who knows me has heard me gripe about Munich beer. Unionsbräu is the exception. I don't know what its connection to Löwenbräu is, but the beer there has some real flavor, definitely unique in Munich. Food was good too. Worth a try for you beer connoisseurs ;-)

without a doubt my favorite beer in the entire city! you simply can't find a better brew anywhere else - pure, unfiltered, made in the basement of the building. the beer garden out back is really nice, the people are always friendly (esp. if you speak to them in german), and the food rocks. great place. there are also three "levels" - normal restaurant up top, beer garden out back, pub-ish atmosphere in the basement

a big crowd of us were here on Saturday night for the Starkbierfest. the service was excellent, we had a very jolly Bavarian waiter who looked after us all night. the food was great, and very good value. very easy to get to as it's at Max-Weber platz. we'll head back in the summer to try out the beer garden.

Was here on Friday 7th March 2008 – the second time I have given this place the benefit of the doubt. Even by Munich’s standard for aggressive service, this place excels. Overpriced beer served in dirty glasses by harridans.
