After years of work the U6 extension to Garching is apparently almost finished! Dunno when the line opens, but the tunnel is built and for whatever reason they are holding a "tunnel party" to celebrate. It's called "Die Mega-Party im U-Bahn Tunnel" and is this Saturday, 17th July 2004 from 9pm to 5am. Sounds like fun! A great opportunity to drink in the U-Bahn and walk around the tunnels without getting arrested. ...
The party will be in a 500 meter long stretch of tunnel immediately north of the current U6 terminus at Garching-Hochbrück. Take the U6 north to that station and the party starts right there. This is a once only event. Immediately afterwards the train tracks will be laid. The party will include a large beer garden, döner, pizza, and grill stands. There will also be 8 bars in the tunnel and a music area pumping out the "party sounds". See the discussion thread here: U6 Tunnel Party, Munich. |

Anyone going? Do we think this thing is going to be worth it?
I've just turned 21 and after celebrating my b'day at home in England, i am of course celebrating it here too, in my home from home. I was thinking of 4004...but i could go here before. So, anyone going? never drank in an u-bahn tunnel before... |

There's a few of us Irish and English Erasmus students going just to see what it would be like getting plastered in an U-Bahn tunnel. We were also going to 4004 but saving that for my leaving Munich piss-up the weekend after. So perhaps we'll see you in the U-Bahn!

It was crap. Long queues from 10pm. 9 Euros entry, crap sound (although loud), germans giving that classic "german party atmosphere" (i.e. none) and one very long tunnel.
They should stick to volksfests! |
