Toshi are now doing a daily business lunch for 12 euros, including main dish, miso soup, salad, rice and green tea. Best to reserve in advance. Today they were full and had to turn people away.

the business lunch is excellent value for money. definitely worth the price. also i can confirm the recommendation to make a reservation - not only are they often full, they also often sell out of the business lunch.

What does one expect in a Japanese restaurant across the street from the Four Seasons? A sushi bar with no seats, sake served in crystal shot glasses, waiters and waitresses with Red Bull emblazoned outfits... The food, however, was exceptional and well worth the price - with the odd exception (the uni z.B.). Not the best in Munich, but far better than average.

Went back to Toshi on Saturday night for another sushi feeding frenzy. I take it back, they are the best in Munich, especially since Kaito moved. The fish (including the uni) was perfect - and that is not a word I throw around lightly when it comes to sushi. Little things (like Kirin on tap) sealed the deal. The bill is the only thing preventing me going here on a more regular basis. Expensive? Very. But worth every penny.

Got the last two seats on a sold out Saturday night. Tried the monthly 5 course Menu. Excellent food and exceptional dishes, unusual combinations for japanese (japanese foie gras). Service though was slooow. Never was asked whether we wanted more to drink, always had to call for the waiter. Table was cleared long after course was finished. Whole dinner experience took approx. 3 hours (more than 30 minutes per course). Met nice people at the table next to us who had to wait even longer and whose tuna according to them had been frozen. Overall. Food is worth it, service has to improve to justify the prices

As an average Japanese living in Europe, often being deeply disappointed at so-called Japanese restaurants in Europe, "one of the few real ones". As a Japanese who has experienced very best Sushi places in Japan, "one of the very few places that can even complete with the ones in Japan". As a Japanese who lives in Berlin and has traveled all through Germany, "so far the best in Germany". There is only one negative point: too expensive.

Altough the service is painfully slow and the sake is served in a grotesque Bavarian schnapps glass the food is magnificent.

The schnapps glasses may be a thing of the past now. When I tried out Toshi last night the sake was served in very authentic looking cups with the sake itself being kept warm in a sort of water bath. Otherwise I was impressed by the décor, the very varied menu and the quality of the food (I liked the Spring rolls particularly). Our table was rather cramped and the service was slow. The price is also rather steep, but not unexpected with the "Vier Jahreszeiten" around the corner. The staff did however make an effort to wish us well when we left. All together, I'd say that Toshi is above average, but not the best in Munich, certainly in terms of value for money.

Your comments, in particular that concerning spring rolls (never mind that you drank your sake warm - :D) disqualify you from discussing Toshi. If, as you say, it is not the best in Munich, perhaps you would care to enlighten the rest of us sushi amateurs...

Yes, I totally agree with "LoveThe Springrolls",anyone who orders spring rolls at sushi bar should not commment on any sushi!

"whose tuna according to them had been frozen" Even "fresh" tuna is frozen when it comes off the boat. It's chopped up in the fish market while still frozen, sold to the wholesalers while still frozen, and then sold on to the restaurants while still frozen. You'll very rarely find tuna that's fresh from the ocean (i.e. not frozen on board some fishing boat that's been at sea for days) even in Japan.
