Tibet Kitchen - Occamstraße 4, Munich, Germany
The first and only Tibetan restaurant in Munich recently opened in Schwabing close to München Freiheit. We went to give it a try last night and can highly recommend it to fans of Tibetan cuisine. I can really recommend the vegetarian Momo (Amdo Momo) with a lovely coriander-tomato dip (main course!). The Momo won't fill you though, so try sharing a plate of Momo with someone and ordering a second dish. The other main courses were quite big, I was unable to finish my food alone. The Tibetan Chai is also delicious. We each had two main courses as we wanted to try out their food. We stuck to vegetarian dishes at first. Everything was delicious. The steamed Bread (Ting Mo) is home made and very good. I have never seen anything like it.
My only concern is that this restaurant won't manage to break even, as it was almost completely empty for most of the night. Perhaps they should invest more in advertising? Pedestrians seem to miss this place or not notice it when walking past. At any rate, I would give it a solid 4 out of 5 for the food. The atmosphere is unfortunately only moderately cosy unless you love orange and cheap wooden tables and chairs, but the proprietors did their best with their seemingly limited means. The interior is that of a snack bar (Imbiss) which has turned itself into a restaurant, or rather that's the impression it made on me. The advantage of the modest interior is the affordability of the food. So, if you are looking for good, affordable Tibetan food, this is the place to go. The most expensive dish costs 11 Euros. Main courses start at 6,50 Euros. Everything is freshly made and you can really taste this. The service is friendly and fast. I do hope this place makes it and wish that other Toytowners would support them.

Posted by: Uncle Nick at 1:10 pm on 23.Apr.2009This is an excellent restaurant! The food is good and healthy, and offers the unique chance of trying out some unique Tibetan dishes. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There is a wide variety of delicious meat and vegetarian choices, and nice appetizers. The menu is available in English, and some of the staff speak English as well. The ambiance inside is cosy, and the prices are low. What more do you want?! It is a true gem (especially amongst all the trashy places in Occamstrasse), and having been there multiple times I can definitely recommend it. It would be a great loss to see such a nice place and honest hard-working people struggle for survival. I encourage anyone who visits to tell their friends and boost the popularity of Tibet Kitchen.
Posted by: overzier at 1:56 pm on 25.Aug.2009I've been to this restaurant only about 15 times since I discovered it a few months ago and I've never been disappointed. I'm familiar with authentic Tibetan cuisine and can vouch for the food at this restaurant. I've also brought a lot of friends to this place and they all loved it! The prices are very reasonable, the owner speaks English and is friendly and the food is excellent. It doesn't get better than that, does it?
