The New York Bar - Munich

Let me be the first to post that after a bloody good night out the owner of The New York Bar was an idiot! After approx 25 people on our night had fed his tills it fell to the stragglers amongst us and Yorkie in particular to defend an accusation that we hadn't paid for two beers. We requested police presence if he wanted to carry it through and the only thing that he had to say was that he had always had problems with English-speaking people and that he never wanted them at his bar again. I suggest we make his dream come true and that all and every TTers current and future be told that this guy is a total anti-anglo (of whatever ilk) and should be boycotted! There will be other posts backing this, I know from the others that were there. But trust me, avoid this bar!

So if this guy has so many problems with us English speaking people, why does he name his bar The New York Bar, a place that is from my limited experience fairly English speaking, maybe a better name would be Nür für Bayer Bar, at least it would give people the right impression

Boycots never solved anything. Why not go back in small groups, befriend the guy, and prove to him that English-speakers are actually more desirable customers to have than Germans? Make peace not war. Better for everyone in the long run.

Doch! Boycots have solved many things over the years! If the guy is a jerk, vote with your wallet and take your business elsewhere. Last time I checked there was more than one bar in town and more than one place for an Anglo to get treated well.

So Hippie, the best thing in your opinion would be to reward the guy for being a jerk with extra business?? No wonder Germany is considered a 'Sevice Wueste'

I'm suggesting conflict resolution, not escalation. But do what you like.

oy Hippie! the owner should be trying to make amends not us going round there to kiss his bottom and try to re-educate him. why should we go round to prove English speaking clients are better than German ones?? he should welcome ANY custom and take care of all clients, be they English-speaking or German. I looked for a website for the place, but couldn't find one. thought it might be nice to send this page link to them.

If you don't go, then there's no conflict. Simple. There are plenty of other places around that would appreciate the extra business

He had a bar-full of english speakers on Tuesday night, many of us were tipping big style. He won't be getting any of my business again. There are tons of decent bars in Munich to visit instead.

Tim after you live in germany you should know that german waitresses don't live on minimum wage like in NA. They have a salery of about 1200€ plus 10 to 15% of their sales goes in their pocket. So in your case: "Bavarian Waitress: €87,40 bitte Bavarian guest: €88. Waitress (without a hint or thought of sarcasm): Danke!" she made another 13€ and therefore it is not necessary to give her a big tip
