The Big Easy - Munich

The Big Easy - Frundsbergstr. 46, 80634 Munich, Germany

Aiming for a New Orleans Jazz feel this is a very nice restaurant. The food is excellent and the menu quite varied, although the table service can be dodgy. The bar staff are quite proud of their cocktail making skills so feel free to test them (the staff & the cocktails). It's always busy from Thursday through Sunday so it's worth making a reservation. Very nice for a romantic meal, or if you just fancy a few drinks then grab one of the high tables or a plot at the bar and watch the world go by. Usually they have two or three piece bands playing cool Jazz and if you're bored on a Sunday morning the brunch is worth a try.

Was there Friday night, had great food and drinks. Live music provided a very relaxed atmosphere - which was helped by fantastic cocktails. Great specials menu too. If you don't have a booking, go early as after around 9pm it gets very busy, especially at the weekend.

Food is great but service is diabolical. Our waitress was very friendly but it was taking 20-30 minutes to get drinks after we had ordered. Manager tried to move us from the table to put more people in despite the fact we were still waiting for our deserts to be served and had ordered more cocktails.

The Big Easy has a Sunday Brunch Buffet that I went to a few days ago. It starts at 10am and goes till 3pm. The food was fantastic. It's 15.50 euro and drinks are extra. In general the place is great, great ambiance, really comfy seating, super music and unique and attention demanding food. The Buffet is also on Holidays.

went by on Sunday and it was closed. Are the Sunday Brunch Buffet's only on certain weekends? Was really looking forward to some cajun flavor. :-(

seems they don't do their brunch in the summer. starts up again in September.

I believe the brunch starts in October in fact...either way, I went on Friday for dinner and it was great - not cheap, but certainly worth it, though the service was a little slow at times. The steak was great, the mixed starter plate was fantastic and they mixed a nice cocktail too - well worth a punt in my humble opinion.

the nonsmoking section is apparently upstairs and if they're not too busy they close it. Call ahead to make sure it's open. at 21:19 Nov. 14 it was already closed. Kitchen's open until 23:15.

I went to TBE last night, it was packed..unfortunately there was no live music (thursdays and sundays) but it is a nice enough place. BUT the service took forever...we ordered the appetizer for 2 (took probably 30min) not realizing the price on the list was PER PERSON... it was annoying. nice atmosphere though

Went in for the brunch on Sunday last. We arrived at about noon and the place was packed. Luckily got a table straightaway as someone was just leaving. Brunch costs €15.50 and runs from 10am until 2pm. There's an excellent array of food from muesli through to red snapper. I managed to put away bacon & eggs, pancakes with maple syrup and a chicken curry with savoury rice dish. Not bad going. The quality of the food was very good although some of the main dishes were a bit on the dry side. You pay for your drinks seperately and we didn't have much of an issue with the service. Having said that we were sitting directly opposite the service area. The 3 piece jazz band were very good. I think the singer was an English lady. Most of the restaurant appeared to be non-smoking with some smokers in the raised section near the toilets and a couple loitering outside. The only problem per se were the children running around the place. There's a section for kids to play in which is stupidly right beside where the band play and beside where the buffet is setup. Even more stupidly there are toys provided which included an American football. Asking for trouble. So parents come along and send their kids off to play, seemingly oblivious to the chaos and mayhem that they are causing in that part of the restaurant. The singer told me usually it's not as bad as we saw, but if I'd been up there I would have lamped one of them with my double bass. One of the negligent parents that is. I'd definitely go back but would arrive earlier and ensure that I was sitting somewhere more ameniable.

Hi, I have lived in Munich for five years and been to The Big Easy countless (really, I have lost count) times. I love it. It can be crowded and loud, but hey, that's a good sign! Now they have a non smoking area which is great. If you go on the weekends, make sure to reserve. The food is great and we have never had bad service! I always recommend this place.

Awesome, awesome food, and plenty of it. The Jambalaya and the Chicken Gumbo are great... portions are large, so come hungry. If you get a notion for some Cajun, this is definitely the place. Service is a bit slow, but the food is worth the wait! **** of 5

It was crowded. The Service was excellent and prompt. The food had quite good taste, kinda New Orleansy (lived in the area 12yrs). Jambalaya had my only complaint. One should shell the shrimp before cooking and serving it in this dish. Having Tabasco at the tables would make it more authentic. I will definitely go back for the gumbo! take care, space

Watch out! My colleague was here on Friday night with friends and had her handbag stolen (they think it was taken while they were being served their food). It was found in a bin 2 streets away the next day by someone and handed in but the purse, cards, money, ID card & car keys were missing.

We went last Sunday for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. It's just around the corner from our flat and we'd been when we moved in three years ago. Very sniffy when asked if there was a non-smoking section. Anyway, there is now. For brunch, Buffet is expensive (€15.50 per head ex drinks) and the kids were running riot. As usual, the parents brought nothing with them for the kids to play with and the restaurant provided relatively little. Bored out of their minds, and running riot. But it is non-smoking. Great news.

Hey all...just a heads up....my boyfriend and I went to The Big Easy yesterday for the brunch buffet...and while it was pretty good (American pancakes with maple syrup, eggs, bacon, potatoes, pasta dishes, pastries, etc etc) they have increased the price to 17.50 per person. That means that with drinks, we paid 50 euros for breakfast (for 2 people)! Like I said, it's a great place...good atmosphere, live jazz, good food...but be prepared to pay out the wa-zoo! :)

We went to The Big Easy last nite after reading the rave reviews here. Good choice of restaurant. We had the non-smoking area on the mezanine level. Waitress was very polite and attentive. Food was yummy - we had Jambalaya and Chicken Gumbo. Serving was huge! Happy hours is from 5-8pm. So all cocktails were Euro4.80! We decided to walk home for a good exercise after the delicious meal! Hope to return for Sunday's Brunch!

My favorite rest. in Munich so far... very cozy, been there a million times and tried almost all the menu. Cocktails are something amazing, a little too expensive I must say, but they have a "happy hour" that will make you save some euros (on the long run). Entrees are only for who really is terribly hungry, because main courses are really huge and satisfying. Anyhow, I must say that the potato soup is the best one I ever tried here. Main courses of fish and pasta (hey, I'm italian) are amazing, but, the meat ones... WOW! And deserts... well, when you think you are really full and couldn't eat anymore... order desert... you will be surprised about the place you can still find in your stomach for such a delicatessen. In the past weeks they have also a "week specials menu" in addition to the regular menu... simply amazing. Service is great (I've tried almost every waiter there) and the owner really does everything to find you a nice spot to be seated. Been there in 2 but also in 14 friends... (in this case, remeber to book at least one week in advance). Coming to the bill, well, depending on what you have drinked, it may vary significantly. But with beer or some wine, it usually don't exceed the 30 euro... (ok, I usually spend the double with at least 5 cocktails on my back)... for a whole meal. Surely "my" place in Munich :)

I guess too many people know about this place. Reservations mandatory. Cozy atmosphere Truly great drinks (not just the legendary Hurricane). Wonderful tasty Cajun food. Big servings with high quality ingredients. They prepare the Gumbo slightly different (not much of a soup). The Jambalaya is my personal favorite at The Big easy. Friends sampled pretty much the entire menu, nobody was ever disappointed, to say the least. Not cheap, but not out of line when considering the quality served. Parking can be a hassle, arrive well ahead of the time you reserved your table.

I was there with friends from the States a couple of months ago..we were massively disappointed. The food was not very good and really has very little to do with New Orleans. I'm sorry that Münchners can't sample real Cajun food...because it's fantastic.

Went last night with some friends, the food was okay, nothing special, but okay. Severely overpriced for what you got. 13Euro for a salad with some turkey strips, 7 Euro for 7Shrimp poppers! Get real. Cocktails were not that good either, they were okay, but there are so much better places in Munich for good food and cocktails.

Guys, how much I miss you! Wish to visit munich only to get some more "touchdown" :)))

Awful experience going to the resturant for my birthday celebrations. The service was the worst I have ever seen in munich. We had a table of 10 people, the meals were never brought together, it took 30 minutes for us all to get our main meals, so by the time some of us finished other just started eating. We ordered wine for the meal for the table, it came after meal, even though we reminded the waiter a number of times. The attitude of the waiter for rude. The food is expensive and not that good. Dont waste your money.
