Tenmaya - Munich

Tenmaya - Theresienstr. 43, 80333 Munich, Germany

Nearby the Kaito in the Theresienstrasse is the Tenmaya open since 2005. It has 2 divisions: A running sushi (I didn't try) and an a la carte restaurant. The interior furnishings are held in bright wood and reserved. There are also rooms where you can sit at low tables in the japanese Tatami style.

The service is very friendly, dressed in traditonal japanese style, but it can happen, that all ordered dishes are served at the same time.
I tried sashimi, crab soup and beef and was very content. The prices are acceptable.

Well, I often eat japanese and after loosing "Daitokai" and "Matoi" as leading locations I needed a new orientation. Trying some of those mentioned here and reading some of the enthusiastic comments I felt defied to introduce this one, together with the Toshi these are my favorites at least for the moment.

The running sushi aldo is great, with that wonderful warm towels to clean your hands before! Different and tastful small portions which you can choose as long as you want.

I have only tried the "a la carte section" but the food was very good. Try the menu which is only written in Japanese (ask the waitress what is written there). The food is the seasonal recommendation from the chef and cannot be ordered at any other Japanese restaurants. They cost a bit more than the usual menu but it is worth trying.

I would really recommend the running-sushi at lunchtime. For 13€ + drinks, it's quite a deal. When we went, it was packed, so turnover was good. The selection of fish was better than average, and the waitstaff was actually Japanese (if it makes a difference to you). For people who only want to eat a little sushi, there are all kinds of cooked plates and desserts as well. The recommendation came from another Japanese friend, and I thought it was good. Maybe next time I will try the a la carte menu.
