Extremely good, very polite and helpful staff. I will come again next time with my family.

Have visited this place quite a few times and food is top quality - the jalfrezi and vindaloo are burners but as with all indians in munich you have to ask for it hot. Decor is cosy, prices reasonable and the staff are very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

The food was not good at all. They offer soup as a starter....???? when do indians have soup in their cuisine!!! doesn't exist!! It's a daal which is eaten with rice

Soup is a Soup !!! Starter is Starter !!! Soup is a starter. At least at some places. At Revolutionary Soup, however, soup is the main event. Revolutionary Soup is a culinary rarity in the world and brings a new meaning to the word "starter." Mulligatawny is the Anglicized version of the Tamil (a southern Indian Dravidian language) words for "pepper water" or "pepper broth." It became popular with the British stationed in India (employees of the East India Company) during colonial times, during the late 18th century and later. When they returned home, they brought the recipe back with them to England, and to other members of the Commonwealth, especially Australia. Dr. William Kitchiner, The Cook's Oracle, (London: John Hatchard, Picadilly, 2nd edition, 1818), Dear Anon Dal Soup not the only soup in Indian !! Lentils are the Rodney Dangerfield of vegetables. They don't get much respect now and haven't for centuries.Lentils, one of the first crops cultivated by man, have been a food source for over 8000 years. Through much of that time they have been considered the food of the poor people. Lentils, one of the first crops cultivated by man, have been a food source for over 8000 years. Through much of that time they have been Lentils gained more respect in Eighteenth Century France under the reign of Louis XV, whose wife Marie made them fashionable at the king's court.

Had dinner here last week. Very mixed feelings about the place. My chicken was like rubber but my partners beef was very hot and very tasty. I think there are plenty of other places to try before coming back here again

Great Service. Reasonable Prices. Very friendly waiters.

This is my absolute favorite Indian restaurant in Munich. In particular the Tandoori dishes are just excellent. I wished every Indian restaurant in town offered such high-quality food - my friends and I are fed up by "all-you-can-eat-buffets" served elsewhere. We always enjoy the hospitality and outstanding service, and for sure we will come back many times.

This is a great indian - service could not be better and the food is normally great. There has been the odd occasion where the chicken is tough but that is more the exception than the rule and they are open to complaints. If you want a good curry in Munich then Taj Mahal is the place.

Went there yesterday for the first time and it was superb. The chicken jalfrezzi was very tasty and nicely hot. One of the best curries I've tried so far. Service was very efficient even though they were full. Definitely a place to go again.

Best Indian restaurant we've found in Munich, never been disappointed. I'm hard pressed to think of a curry house in London that is better.

Posted by: "Jeremy" at 3:45 pm on 5.Dec.2006

taj mahal is getting better and better. it doesn't matter what day of the week you go, it is always busy. The service is still very good and the food is very taste. one of the best curries in town. (their hot pickle is delicious)

We went there on Sunday for the first time. I have to say it was the best indian food we have ever eaten. We know our Indian food.

It is a very bad restaurant. I hate it. I reccomend never to go there

Posted by: "suki" at 9:44 pm on 19.Nov.2007

Care to tell us why it's so bad, suki?

Posted by: Editor Bob at 1:51 am on 20.Nov.2007

Sorry. The last time we were there the food was so salty I could only eat half. This is the second time it's happened here. But everyone else seemed happy - or is this because the Brits are so polite?

Posted by: petersen at 10:25 am on 23.Jan.2008

petersen, you are not the only one. My last meal was also very salty. and to be honest, the last couple of times i have not been happy with the food, meat not cooked properly, two different dishes (1 meat and 1 veggie) having the same sauce and salty food. So i have to change my earlier review. I think Taj's success has gone to their head (without reservation is difficult to get a table) and the food is not as good anymore. I have no plans of going back in the near future.

I had a very nice meal at the Taj Mahal on Monday evening. Perfect for a birthday celebration and the food was very good! It wasn´t quite as spicy as we hoped (my boyfriend ordered a Vindaloo and it wasn´t hot at all) but the waitor gave us a VERY hot sauce to go with it. The good thing about this restaurant is that the food is authentic (english style curry), good value and has a nice atmoshere. The waitors are friendly, service is good and the Popadoms are free! I would definitely go again and next time I will ask them to spice it up a bit!! :)

Ever since I discovered this place a few years back, I have not eaten at any other Indian restaurant in Munich. My favorite dishes: Their Thalis 3 different dished (choose from vegetable, meat or fish). Well seasoned, but not too spicy. Priced around 13 Euro for the main course. Best part: Their friendly staff. The restaurant is always packed, called ahead and reserve a table.

My second visit to a Indian Restaurant in Munich,n i must say it was all worth the 5min walk from Mailingerstr station to Taj Mahal, one of the best meals i have had to date, would suggest the Tandoori Chicken,it seemed as if it came straight out of a Tandoor back home in India n the Basmati rice with a pinch of saffron n ghee tadka really tickled my taste buds...truly authentic, excellent service, courteous waiters, great value for money. PS:Get a reservation in advance as the place is usually full in the evenings.

No. Tested several times - last time end of 2007 with Toytown. I ordered something vegetarish and it was incredibly salty. I refused it and another version was identical. They only made me pay for the beer and no one else complained. But I always eat out and am very critical. My meal tonight will be a Classical Burger with the Anglo-American "Friends of Fiction" crowd at Killians - hopefully outside.

I visit the Taj Mahal , restaurant at Nymphenburgerstr. 145, once a week. I have NO complaints and actually last night I had a Indian lad from Bombay with me and he described the food as 'very good' in comparsion to price and quality from his home city. I think the crowds sitting both outside and inside the establishment recently must be a testament that they are getting something right ?

Went there yesterday for the second time. Had the Beef Vindaloo and it was great (and pretty spicy)! The service was very friendly and attentive, despite being busy.

Posted by: davidfromttu at 1:15 pm on 1.Jul.2008

I went for the curry night and found the food to be very good. The restaurant was full even on a weekday and that says a lot. It was a great evening.

Ever thought abt donating money to charity????...If not i would strongly recommend to do that rather than u do a visit to this so called "Taj Mahal" restaurant. Its a complete nonsense. When you know the owner himself doesnt know a word about hospitality who the da hell will you go and complaint about? This restaurant is creating a bad image to the seventh wonder"Taj Mahal". Wish i had the power to sue the hotel for using such a name for such a lame hotel."Concentration Camp" would have been a perfect name. If u r nt from india and if by anymistake happen 2 go to dis hotel, i feel sorry 4 u guys. I can vouch 4 u guys dat its a fake hospitality dat the owner z trying 2 show on u.Hospitality in india z far far better than dis. I do not have any personal differences with da hotel. Its jus dat i cant stand if smeone is nt givin da respect on human grounds. One thing for sure, the food was ok.I had no issues with the taste but i can not promote that to someone whoz so "HITLER"istic. After all we dont live to eat.....do we???? P.S- I did not write this mail straight away coming out of the hotel. I went back thought hard---took my tym---controlled my emotions and den felt its necessary to let others about this.Had i nt controlled my emotions, by now my review would have been censored. This is the first time i`m writing a review online and no wonder i hav a reason to it.

The owner of the Taj Mahal is an ass. He got very nasty with me for asking if I could choose which dishes we got with the thali because we didn't want anything with spinach. We asked nicely so his reaction was ridiculous. We will never go back there again.

I was very impressed with the Taj Mahal. The indian sausage rolls were spicy enough and although the sauce stained my brown suede jacket and bright turquoise shirt, I only have myself to blame! The Lekster approves of this restaurant.

We went a week ago to the Taj Mahal. The food was excellent. Our starter was delicious, prawns in a hot sauce. Then we had two curries, both excellent. The free starters papadams were good, but we didnt really need them. You could save on a starter by eating them. When we were there some Indian famillies came in, which is a good sign.

Posted by: EnglishBav at 6:19 pm on 21.Mar.2009

I am a regular there. You get Papadam as a free starter, their chicken vindaloo is really hot but simply great. Also vegetable pakora and samosa are recommended.

use to be a very good indian . was there on saturday . found the service very bad, also food not so good had lamb masala portion was small not hot as i requested they took it back , bought it back within 2 minutes obviously just put chilli powder in it . how one of the best indian resturants can go downhill this quickly is beyond me

Posted by: coolerking at 9:02 am on 31.Aug.2009

Yes, I would agree too...we have been there for two times, first experience was really nice...service, food everything was perfect. But second time, it was exactly opposite! The food was way beyond mild even though we'd asked for Indian spicy, when we asked them to make spicy, they just added some sauce and started to be really rude and arrogant. Service and the modified food both were worst! Will never go there again for sure.

Posted by: munjal at 3:08 pm on 31.Aug.2009

Went there recently for a dinner with a group of friends, all Munich residents who had dined there many times before. I like that the food wasn't greasy or heavy and the lamb dish I had was excellent. Tender and flavorful.
