Posted by: "arshad khan" at 4:07 pm on 6.Aug.2003Have visited this place quite a few times and food is top quality - the jalfrezi and vindaloo are burners but as with all indians in munich you have to ask for it hot. Decor is cosy, prices reasonable and the staff are very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.
Posted by: "Jay" at 4:43 pm on 1.Jan.2005The food was not good at all. They offer soup as a starter....???? when do indians have soup in their cuisine!!! doesn't exist!! It's a daal which is eaten with rice
Posted by: "anon" at 4:17 pm on 14.Jan.2005Soup is a Soup !!! Starter is Starter !!! Soup is a starter. At least at some places. At Revolutionary Soup, however, soup is the main event. Revolutionary Soup is a culinary rarity in the world and brings a new meaning to the word "starter." Mulligatawny is the Anglicized version of the Tamil (a southern Indian Dravidian language) words for "pepper water" or "pepper broth." It became popular with the British stationed in India (employees of the East India Company) during colonial times, during the late 18th century and later. When they returned home, they brought the recipe back with them to England, and to other members of the Commonwealth, especially Australia. Dr. William Kitchiner, The Cook's Oracle, (London: John Hatchard, Picadilly, 2nd edition, 1818), Dear Anon Dal Soup not the only soup in Indian !! Lentils are the Rodney Dangerfield of vegetables. They don't get much respect now and haven't for centuries.Lentils, one of the first crops cultivated by man, have been a food source for over 8000 years. Through much of that time they have been considered the food of the poor people. Lentils, one of the first crops cultivated by man, have been a food source for over 8000 years. Posted by: "lanka" at 6:34 pm on 21.Feb.2005Had dinner here last week. Very mixed feelings about the place. My chicken was like rubber but my partners beef was very hot and very tasty. I think there are plenty of other places to try before coming back here again
Posted by: "Gamblor" at 3:01 pm on 16.Mar.2005Great Service. Reasonable Prices. Very friendly waiters.
Posted by: "Axxo" at 11:24 am on 26.Jun.2005This is my absolute favorite Indian restaurant in Munich. In particular the Tandoori dishes are just excellent. I wished every Indian restaurant in town offered such high-quality food - my friends and I are fed up by "all-you-can-eat-buffets" served elsewhere. We always enjoy the hospitality and outstanding service, and for sure we will come back many times.
Posted by: "Margot" at 10:43 pm on 5.Sep.2005This is a great indian - service could not be better and the food is normally great. There has been the odd occasion where the chicken is tough but that is more the exception than the rule and they are open to complaints. If you want a good curry in Munich then Taj Mahal is the place.
Posted by: "Anon" at 1:34 pm on 21.Nov.2005Went there yesterday for the first time and it was superb. The chicken jalfrezzi was very tasty and nicely hot. One of the best curries I've tried so far. Service was very efficient even though they were full. Definitely a place to go again.
Posted by: "Panama" at 12:28 pm on 24.Nov.2006Best Indian restaurant we've found in Munich, never been disappointed. I'm hard pressed to think of a curry house in London that is better.
Posted by: "Jeremy" at 3:45 pm on 5.Dec.2006taj mahal is getting better and better. it doesn't matter what day of the week you go, it is always busy. The service is still very good and the food is very taste. one of the best curries in town. (their hot pickle is delicious)
Posted by: planetmoni at 9:11 am on 30.May.2007We went there on Sunday for the first time. I have to say it was the best indian food we have ever eaten. We know our Indian food.
Posted by: EnglishBav at 10:35 pm on 12.Sep.2007It is a very bad restaurant. I hate it. I reccomend never to go there
Posted by: "suki" at 9:44 pm on 19.Nov.2007Care to tell us why it's so bad, suki?
Posted by: Editor Bob at 1:51 am on 20.Nov.2007Sorry. The last time we were there the food was so salty I could only eat half. This is the second time it's happened here. But everyone else seemed happy - or is this because the Brits are so polite?
Posted by: petersen at 10:25 am on 23.Jan.2008petersen, you are not the only one. My last meal was also very salty. and to be honest, the last couple of times i have not been happy with the food, meat not cooked properly, two different dishes (1 meat and 1 veggie) having the same sauce and salty food. So i have to change my earlier review. I think Taj's success has gone to their head (without reservation is difficult to get a table) and the food is not as good anymore. I have no plans of going back in the near future.
Posted by: planetmoni at 9:50 am on 24.Jan.2008I had a very nice meal at the Taj Mahal on Monday evening. Perfect for a birthday celebration and the food was very good! It wasn´t quite as spicy as we hoped (my boyfriend ordered a Vindaloo and it wasn´t hot at all) but the waitor gave us a VERY hot sauce to go with it. The good thing about this restaurant is that the food is authentic (english style curry), good value and has a nice atmoshere. The waitors are friendly, service is good and the Popadoms are free! I would definitely go again and next time I will ask them to spice it up a bit!! :)
Posted by: Williams at 1:00 pm on 13.Feb.2008Ever since I discovered this place a few years back, I have not eaten at any other Indian restaurant in Munich. My favorite dishes: Their Thalis 3 different dished (choose from vegetable, meat or fish). Well seasoned, but not too spicy. Priced around 13 Euro for the main course. Best part: Their friendly staff. The restaurant is always packed, called ahead and reserve a table.
Posted by: z-man99 at 9:24 am on 19.Apr.2008My second visit to a Indian Restaurant in Munich,n i must say it was all worth the 5min walk from Mailingerstr station to Taj Mahal, one of the best meals i have had to date, would suggest the Tandoori Chicken,it seemed as if it came straight out of a Tandoor back home in India n the Basmati rice with a pinch of saffron n ghee tadka really tickled my taste buds...truly authentic, excellent service, courteous waiters, great value for money. PS:Get a reservation in advance as the place is usually full in the evenings.
