My favourite Sushi restaurant in Munich. And that's a curious thing because I absolutely hate sushi. Can't stand the stuff. But what I enjoy here is the atmosphere. There are long long tables. If you go as a couple you will almost certainly end up enjoying the evening with another pair of couples on either side of you (sounds kinky doesn't it). The lighting is just perfect, they often have a video projection on the wall too, showing various ambient underwater scenes.
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 12:58 am on 4.May.2003Cool atmosphere, not the best sushi around, but acceptable. Avoid the appetizers, they are overpriced and tiny. Cocktails are pretty good, but as everywhere in Munich, expensive. There is a sushi happy hour between (I think) 6 and 7:00 where many of the sushi platters are half price. Reserve, even on weeknights, if you want to get a good table.
Posted by: "Al" at 8:13 pm on 24.Feb.2004it has happy hour on Sun & Mon after 10p.m. The sushi platters in the so called 'sushi a la karte' menu are half price. nice sushis, but a bit westernized. those stuffs like rainbow role or dragon role (?) were quite nice.
Posted by: "aren" at 10:23 pm on 17.Jul.2004The owners of this place, assuming they are German, should be condemned to 10-years-to-life in say, Mongolia, eating burnt Bratwurst and soggy Sauerkraut whilst listening to Ibiza Groove Factory IV on repeat. To top it off they should be surrounded for every meal by the well-heeled set of Ulan Bator smacking their lips and exclaiming 'Ooh this German Food is Wunderbah!' whilst being forced by the waiters to hand over their life savings. Actually, to be honest, I still drop by once in a very long time due to the scarcity of the competition. It's 'O.K.' but if this place was back home well it would suddenly disappear in a puff of 50 euro notes.
Posted by: "duskenlite" at 3:53 am on 19.Jul.2004Sat in the new 'japanese-style' section (ie. on the floor)had the bento box which was poor for the 25 price tag. Buzzing place, good if you're out with mates, but definately not the best sushi place in town by a long chalk.
Posted by: "the mongrel" at 5:21 pm on 31.Dec.2005First the good stuff: My date arrived around 6.30 and was seated promptly at the long tables in the center of the restaurant, which would be great for a group event. When I arrived and asked that we be moved to a nearby table, the waitress complied without too much fuss. It was happy hour, and all cocktails were half-price, as were the Bento boxes my date and I both got the Tenno Bento, which were normally a whopping 30 each. The box is a fair amount of food (though certainly not 30 worth) with a variety of nigiri, a few rolls, skewered shrimp and pork, and some sort of battered chicken served cold over greens. Nothing mind-blowing, but not bad. The atmosphere was nice relaxed, nicely lit, trendy without being schicki, with a good mix of bench seating, four-person tables, and lounging areas. But thats where my positive review ends. The service at Sushi + Soul was, in a word, disastrous. After we changed tables, it seemed our waitress completely disowned us. We sat there for a good ten minutes without even having had our drink orders taken, and when I finally flagged the waitress down, she came over and gave a somewhat annoyed speech about how it wasnt her table, but reluctantly took our drink orders. I ordered a vodka gimlet, and my date ordered a Singapore Sling. When the waitress returned nearly ten more minutes later, she set down two gimlets (one vodka, one gin), which my date was too polite to send back despite our pointing out that it was the wrong drink. Our food arrived within ten minutes of having ordered it, but the waitress did not return even once during the meal. Afterwards, I had to flag down yet another waitress to get her to take our empty trays away (which had sat there untouched for nearly fifteen minutes). Once wed asked for the check, it took nearly twenty minutes to get the waitress to bring it to the table, and even that required another prompting on our part. I felt I was having to chase down waitresses all evening just to get any kind of service whatsoever. The bottom line? Good food, nice atmosphere, good deals to be had during happy hour, but be prepared for worse-than-usual service.
Posted by: "georgiagirl" at 10:32 am on 21.Feb.2006Went there last night (after realising it is infact No 71 Klenzestr and not No 89 which is Veggie Cafe Bar !). Contrary to the comments above we had an excellent meal, service was impeccable and thought it was good value for money. Things have obviously improved /changed : No complaints ...
