Surbahar - Munich

Surbahar opened near Max-Weber-Platz in Summer 2006. It is at the corner of Einsteinstr. and Flurstr. I went with five people, each ordering a different meal, and each person thoroughly enjoyed their food.
Service was very good and the interior classic curry house.

We tried this restaurant last night fairly late. Despite the fact they were about to close the restaurant stayed open just for us and prepared a fantastic meal. The food was very well spiced with the mild dishes being really mild but with a full flavour. The hot dishes were just as we had requested - hot but not just with lots of chilli powder! Would recommend this place without hesitation as being one of the hot new restaurants in Munich.

We´ve been yesterday at the Surbahar and I highly recommend. The Restaurant is clean and the waiter was very friendly. The food was absolute perfect - great taste! Unfortunately the Restaurant was empty and I wonder why?? I told the "Sahib" that I will write a good feedback and come again!!

I have eaten at Surbahar a couple of times in the last couple of weeks and both times it was outstanding. Both times I got the Surbahar Thali, which allows you to try 3 different entrees. My favorite dish (so far) is the Chili Chicken, but there is also a smoked eggplant dish that is out of this world. These guys are new and hungry for business, so they really go out of their way to please. If you are in a hurry, make sure they know. When we asked for the bill, they brought us digestifs, puddings, and then more digestifs.

It seems that this great restaurant is sadly in a deadly corner of munich (for restaurants and bars that is :). There have been 4 different places there in the last 5 or so years, each was pretty good but suffered from lack of customers and eventually closer down.

I like this reastaurant a lot. The food is good (but i am not an expert of indian food), the place is clean and the service is prompt and friendly. I had lamb with Masala sauce, and it was really tasty. Prices are right.

Popped in here the other day as it's just round the corner from me and was very pleasantly surprised. The food was very good with good spice, reasonably hot but no so much that you couldn't taste the other flavours. As mentioned before is wasn't very crowded when I dragged my girlfriend in (she doesn't like empty places) but a few others came in. Service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was warm and I would say a little better decorated than the average Indian restaurant. I would highly recommend it.

I went to eat here last weekend and although it was nice, and the service was very friendly the food took ages to arrive and the place was pretty empty. It took so long that I was contemplating walking out. The food itself was OK, nice and spicy but not as much taste as from other Curry places I have been to in Munich. (I had the Chicken Jalfrezi). On the scale of rubbish to excellent, it gets an OK.

They have a no smoking section, but it is not exactly apart from the smoking one.

They don't need a no smoking section anymore but they do serve fantastic Indian food - The best I have had outside India. I suggest strongly the on the bone Chicken Cochin dish if you can stomach a bit of spice! For me the most authentic Indian in Munich with the best tasting food and the best service.

Very tasty - probably the best Indian food I have tried in Munich. I had the Lamb boti masala - fantastic tender lamb and spicy sauce. It looked a long way from public transport but was only five minutes from Max Weber Platz - and you have to walk past the Unionbrau - not a bad place for a beer.

I have gone here with business associates nearly every week. As the other comments mention, they are seldom very full. If you have a large group and no reservation, that can work to your advantage. I particularly like their Naan, which comes with their Tandori dishes. I have liked some dishes, and not been thrilled with others. Serive is generally good.

This restaurant was one we visited often during our year-long stay in Munich. We loved that it was never full even on the weekends, which was good for reservation slackers like us. The service was excellent, and we loved the (free!) mini mango dessert you get at the end with your bill. The food was great (at least the few dishes we had; it was really hard to get away from our favorites), and requests for varying degrees of spiciness were gladly accomodated. Also, the menu is in German and English. Highly recommend this place.

Visited on the Curry Night 23/09/09 The food was very good - The Chicken Jalfrezi I ordered was spicy enough without asking for 'English Hot' with plenty of sublte flavour underneath the kick. The concensus around the table was also good for the various dishes ordered. In summary: no complaints at all; I would definitely go again TT curry night or not.

I enjoyed Surbahar very much with our small group of 7 just as much as last winter when we had over 20. My botti kabab was very tender and well spiced and the sauce that came with it was full of fresh spices. A very nice evening and I look forward to returning.

Excellent food all round. And nice and spicy, exactly as stated on the menu without me asking for it spicy. One could even taste the fresh coriander and ginger in the Chicken Cochin I tried. And it has a lot of untried dishes which no other restaurants in Munich offer. I found the menu a lot more imaginative. Two of us commented that the chicken and meat was the most tender encountered in Munich and not the usual tough pieces of chicken one often gets. The mango lassi was the thickest and the freshest one I have had in Munich. The straw even stood up in the glass. We all got a free mango cream dessert too. We all said we'd like to go back there. And the prices are reasonable too. We presumed the restaurant was nearly empty due to the Oktoberfest. Oh and the waiter spoke English which might be a plus for some people.
