This place does the best schnitzel in town, absolutely huge (they normally eclipse the entire plate) and just when your eyes are popping out of your head at the thought of eating the whole thing, you realise that underneath there is a large portion of chips. Then the waitress brings you a big bowl of salad. Its practically obscene. And its obscenely cheap too.

Went there last night and I have to second everything Mongrel said. The schnitzel is indeed that large - I only managed to get through 3/4 of it. The salad was actually edible and the service was pretty good (when it got crowded they put 2 extra waitresses on). My check w/ 2 beers came out to 14.50. My only complaint would be the layout of the place, its a bit crap.

I agree that Steinheil has the best schnitzel in town. I have been going there for years and that is why a recent BAD experience there has put me off. I ordered ravioli with chestnut filling. I ate one and found it VERY salty (saltstick salty) ....thought, maybe the chef got a little salt happy and I tried the next one....it was also very salty. I called over the waitress and explained that it was WAY too salty to bare. She took it back and came back explaining that the chef tasted it and disagreed that the food was too salty. He said it is just a matter of taste. I told her fine, then I don’t want another order of the same thing. She told me that I still have to pay for the ravioli. I told her that I would not. She insisted that I pay at least half for eating some and not having returned it right away. I refused. Another waiter came over with an attitude and insisted that I was wrong and had to pay. Again I refused. The waitress then explained that SHE would be responsible for footing the cost of the meal if I did not pay. We told her to find a job elsewhere, as that is a ridiculous policy. After back and forth heavy arguing, we agreed to pay 3€ to cover the two ravioli. I just can’t believe the lack of customer service!!!! A real pity. Have always had nice times there….this was SOOOO bad though, my friends and I won’t be going back for a LONG time.

Damn right too...that you should have paid. You order it - you pay for it!

Oddly enough, I ate there last night with my wife and another couple familiar to Toytown. This restaurant is amazing. For Kera and I to share one Schnitzel and each have two beers it came in under 20 Euros. The food was great as was the service. Highly recommended!!

If i order something that is crap i should NOT pay for it!!! What are you talking about! And no waiter or waitress should start a fight with a customer nor should they be responsible to pay for a crap meal that the chef served and the customer refused. Phil, would you pay for a broken television???? Get over it buddy.

Sorry man - if cockroaches are creeping the food, you surely don't have to pay. If it just doesn't taste, you have to, since it's not the chefs nor the waiter's fault. You are free to not return if you don't like the food. Always remember that this is not America, so dont expect the slaverish behaviour of american waiters.

I agree it is a touchy subject because who is to say if something is good or bad....like art. BUT, I have not eaten plenty of food because I did not like the taste and still paid for my meal. This situation was that the food was SMOTHERED in salt. I hate complaining, especially in Germany because it almost always leads to a fight. Normally I don't complain unless it is REALLY bad. In this case, the thing that bothered me the most was that the chef tasted my food and told me it was fine and I was wrong!!! I am the paying customer and not he...I don't give a damn what the chef has to say.... The fact is, the WAY in which the entire situation was handeled was the biggest problem of all. I might of had no problem to pay for the food if they had at least apologized and offered me something in return instead of telling me that my taste buds are wrong. AND......this has NOTHING to do with the waiters or waitresses. This has to do with the managment of the place and/or the chef. If they really expect the waiters and waitresses to fight the battles because if the lose THEY must pay, then the system is sick and wrong. I don't expect the same service as I might get in USA....in fact, the service in USA often bothers the crap out of me because they are too damn "friendly" - and it is sooo clearly fake. I also hate the way they come to my table 20 times to ask if everything is OK...... Not even worth it arguing this subject now is it.

I disagree, by the chef tasting the ravioli and comfirming that this was the way it was meant to taste, then it was not a mistake in cooking, just a difference in preference. You went there and ordered what they believe to be cooked correctly. You are responsible for paing. If you did not like it, do not return. Great place and great prices.

I have never been to this place. I am a bit concerned now. The chef should never argue with the customer. He should have simply offered to cook a low-salt version of the dish. I am not sure whether I will be going there now... It's a shame because I like Schnitzel... :) Has anyone been there since February??

aber toll...we went there after a long bike ride and shared a schnitzel, pommes, and beers = 14 euros. it was fabulous - yummy. shared a table outside with another schnitzel fan. wait staff a little slow, but considering the place was packed and there seemed to only be two servers - they were doing a good job. all i can say about the salty ravioli is - what the heck were you doing ording raviloli? schnitzel is the way to go at this place. go early (before 6) if you plan on getting a spot. or call for reservation
