Went here Wednesday last week. Was expecting trouble, after all the stories. Took a couple of big lads with me just in case. Was pleasantly surprised. Didn't get knifed or bottled. Place was comfortably full. 98% of them Germans. TV screens every which way you looked. One of them a big screen showing footy. Live band came on later. This was the only thing which met expectations - it was Awful with a capital AW. Good pizza though. "Bauer Pizza" - covered in smokey Speck. Truly scruptious. They give out beer tokens with each pint. Collect 10 tokens and you get one free. My 5 tokens will go to waste.
Posted by: "Suicidal Syd" at 12:40 pm on 9.Feb.2004I like it as well. the service is much better than GM and it is more Irish too. They play a lot of rebel songs too. (like The Field's of Athenrye and the Irish anthem at the end) That doesn't mean it is rough in any way! At the week end it is mostly far too crowded and they don't really have a working air condition, so it is pretty smokey and often pretty warm. Good crowd in their usually on a sunday afternoon after the football. It isn't too busy then and good for a lazy afternoon. Unfortunately the food is not very nice as they don't really have a kitchen. But it's true, the Pizze are really nice. Check the programme of the bands in there, some of them really rock.
Posted by: "Anon" at 10:25 am on 10.Feb.2004My last day in Munich I had pint in the Shamrock. Posted by: "Mark Catterson" at 6:22 pm on 24.Mar.2004Spent a summer in Munich, and really enjoyed the atmosphere in the Shamrock. This place was probably one of the places i miss most from Munich. Never had any trouble in there, but that may have been down to the fact that there was alwaysa crowd of us. Bar staff were extremely friendly and a good time was always on the cards.
Posted by: "Barry Wrafter" at 4:03 pm on 16.Feb.2005The place is a dump. Always has been. Always will be.
Posted by: "IDidYourGirlfriend" at 12:10 am on 18.Feb.2005why is everyone expecting trouble when they go here?
Posted by: "blob" at 5:17 pm on 19.Feb.2005Been going there for years - seems I always missed the "trouble". Nice staff for a "dump".

Posted by: "mandi" at 5:16 pm on 18.May.20053 years ago, I had a summerjob in Munich. Never knew it would turn out to be the time of my life. Shared a house with 3 other girls and most of the time we tasted the nightlife of Munich. One rainy afternoon though, 2 of us ended up in the Shamrock. And there I met what turned out to be the love of my life, an Irishman. Unfortunately, I do not see him anymore. But I will always treasure the good memories of him, your pub and Munich. So thanks for that.

Posted by: "Sarah" at 9:12 pm on 1.Oct.2005Anyone heard of a place called "Patties" down the street from the U station? It's been 7 years since I've been there and was wondering if this was the same place with a different name.
Posted by: "CDS" at 4:50 pm on 24.Oct.2005Too make it a little more clear it was down the street from the Münchner Freiheit station past the McDonalds and past the supream skateboard shop on the left side of the street. Drug raids all the time back then lol.
Posted by: "CDS" at 4:55 pm on 24.Oct.2005You're thinking of Paddy's, not "Patties".
Posted by: "Sean McGonnigal" at 5:51 pm on 24.Oct.2005Thanks, that's it! I remember the sting operations there. The police busting through the front door with video cameras with spot lights on em. So I'm assuming it's still there? Man, I spent so much time in that place it isn't funny. Would like to find two old friends from there anmed Tbor and Chis frun Hungary.
Posted by: "CDS" at 6:16 pm on 24.Oct.2005Is that paddys the place with the sliding doors with the chain on the toilets music blaring and packed
Posted by: "KC" at 10:51 pm on 4.Nov.2005Justto put the record straight.Shamrock is not a rough pub.We can't remember the last time there was a fight, those day's are well gone as any of our many regulars will tell you.during the week 80% German customers, at weekends more ex-pats.Greg the new manager is playing more 70's-90's and the customers love it. We don't apologise for being a very Irish Pub where everyone is welcome even the begrudgers.
Posted by: "PeeDee" at 9:43 pm on 17.Nov.2005To Declan: Sona Athbhliain. I don't know if you remember me, but we met in the Shamrock in August 2002. I hope you are happy and I wanted to thank you for the short but great time we had in Munich. I will never forget you.

Posted by: "kate and emer" at 8:29 pm on 30.Mar.2006Hello my dears irish mad bastards! Lots of kisses from the first female glaswasher in shamrock, Munich 1997! I dont know, who is still there from you: john daly? mick crey? cathal murphy?theresa mc intyre? im looking for contact to declan rynne and andy read. could someone help me with that? Mila, the witch from Slovakia (Ostblock)
Posted by: "mila" at 4:01 pm on 2.Mar.2007Went there yes'day with a small group. This was the most despicable pub I've ever been to during my 6 years in Munich. Dirty tables which were never cleaned, consistently rude behavior from both of the waitresses. Bi****s, did not even know how to ask a guest to clear way so that she could pass though. And, I was served something which I did not order.
Posted by: "Zen" at 12:41 pm on 13.May.2007The Shamrock is a bar for drinking !!! If you think this is some 'chicky micky' german bar to pose , forget it..This is a place to go when you are on the tail end of 12-14 beers and you want to ease the pain..its a top spot..anytime I was there I roared into the night and woke 6pm on a Sunday..its served my purpose well..and the fact its there since 1995? , well that says something ??????
Posted by: the_eagle at 7:23 pm on 13.May.2007We go here every time we go to the Oktoberfest (which is twice, so far) and they are always rather nice to us, even though my group can be rather hard work. The first time we went there they had a fantastic classic rock cover band, and we were drinking Tequila and Hermann Maiers all night long. That night did even outshine the Oktoberfest for us, and did put at least one of us out for the count. This year they quite kindly allowed me to put my Welsh flag up behind the bar, and I did meet three of the nicest people there - Chris the Irish-German, Cloudina the Damien Rice fan, and a very pretty Oxford Press publisher. Also, I think the dodgiest photos of the trip were taken inside that bar. I like the place. A good laugh.
Posted by: Trebor.AKA.Rob at 1:28 pm on 10.Oct.2007It's a dump full of wannabe IRA type cowards (who can't fight - typical Irish).
Posted by: "Dan." at 2:37 am on 11.Oct.2007Any one know if they're still running poker tournaments on thursdays?
Posted by: tom7scc at 3:01 pm on 18.Oct.2007anyone know if there are any poker tournaments here anymore? or know of any going on this weekend in munich?
Posted by: "dann" at 4:56 pm on 12.Dec.2007The poker tournaments are still on on Thursdays
Posted by: tigress at 9:42 am on 13.Dec.2007Been to Oktoberfest 4 times since 2002. I had the best times in this pub. Met a dark haired Swedish girl that was incredible. We just met and made out in the bar in front of everyone for hours. Amazing, but I never saw her again. Let me know if you see her.
Posted by: "Razor" at 4:43 pm on 17.Dec.2007spent a summer in munich in 2000 and the shamrock was best place in munich. drink in camp site, then shamrocks and the night would not be complete without trip to the pouges home. dont know if that still there. best summer of my life. the shamrock is for drinking and crack. onlt time got into fight was across the main street in tapa tapa or something.
Posted by: "the dude" at 10:25 am on 25.Mar.2008On my last trip to Munich I spent an evening in the Shamrock. I enjoyed the atmosphere immensely and then there was this youth in charge of the karaoke. Couldn´t take me eyes off of him! Does anyone know his name and is he Irish?
Posted by: "Lyanna" at 12:08 am on 5.Apr.2008I used to drink in shamrock in 1990- 1992, was back last year, its still a dive
Posted by: "Danny from Termon" at 2:42 pm on 1.Jul.2008"youth in charge of the karaoke" - bearded? Long hair? Tall? Could be any one of 5 people who run or have run the karaoke. Think there's only one Irish lad who's run the karaoke in the past while. I'm quite fond of the Shamrock, had good times there, Saturdays are normally totally jammers and good craic.
Posted by: Punchbear at 12:08 pm on 18.Aug.2008Lyanna, I think that must have been Jackson who was doing the kareoke that night, the ladies do seem to take a shine to his aussie charms! The fella with the long hair Punchbear mentions would be christof, lovely chap but unfortunately doesnt quite has Jackos charms.
Posted by: tigress at 10:38 am on 20.Aug.2008Ah but Jacko's taken. Tough luck girdles ;)
Posted by: Punchbear at 8:02 pm on 21.Aug.2008The Shamrock in Trautenwolfstrasse has changed its opening hours and is now closed on Sunday and Monday, a sad loss to the Sunday afternoon soccer/football watching crowd after the demise of Günter Murphy's 18 months ago. They have upped their activities on the other evenings, hosting karaoke Tuesday and Friday (keeps the costs for live acts down, of course), poker Wednesday and Thursday, a quiz on Thursday and live music on Saturday. Wednesday also is Student Night with special prices for those with student ID. The last Wednesday every month is open for the Irish music get-together.
Posted by: sarabyrd at 1:11 pm on 12.Jan.2009Lived in Munich from 90 till 93 and went here on a Friday night, then over to Murphy's then on the Swabing, Good times, great staff, Doormen were a bunch of nutters,
Posted by: "Clar" at 8:00 am on 13.Feb.2009I lived in Munich 1994-95 and went to Shamrock at least once a week. A lot of the time I went there on my own, I was always well looked after, met some great people in there. Funniest memory was of a live band whose lead singer used a Stylophone and was a loonatic. Never any trouble when I went, loved it in there. Good times!
Posted by: "Sarah" at 3:30 pm on 26.Mar.2009had some of the best nights of my life in that boozer. super sundays in there were the stuff of legends. was there summers of 01 and 02. been all over the world and the shamrock is the best irish pub i've ever been in. real shame to hear its shut sundays... and to lanie, that barman you met is called daithi. i go back every chance i get and hopefully i'll be back for the fest 09.
Posted by: "halpo" at 2:15 am on 31.Mar.2009Where else in Munich can you bring your own beers and the bar tenders (minus jon) don't care, where can you get a waitress with the tongue (and face) of a thundercat along with those piercing cocaine hangover eyes; and, the best thing about SHAMROCK, is not that an English wanker can walk out with a black eye, but their best customer is a black, jewish, irishman named SIMON. greeting to (next to Schwabinger 7) the best shit hole in Munich! is dahee, dave still working?
Posted by: "was a drunk" at 12:59 am on 8.Apr.2009Word missing from name above "was a drunk" IDIOT
Posted by: Jeckel at 2:36 pm on 8.Apr.2009jeckel how many black eyes have you then had...must be an english tosser, eh mate?
Posted by: "was a drunk" at 7:57 am on 9.Apr.2009I lived in Munich from 1991-95. Oh, Irish student from Killybegs! I still think of you now and then... Where are you now Adrian? I loved the Irish and still do but I had to go back for education in Stockholm... We were a lot of Scans from Sweden and Finland and most of the time we went to Shamrock and GM. Great time.
