Went here Wednesday last week. Was expecting trouble, after all the stories. Took a couple of big lads with me just in case. Was pleasantly surprised. Didn't get knifed or bottled. Place was comfortably full. 98% of them Germans. TV screens every which way you looked. One of them a big screen showing footy. Live band came on later. This was the only thing which met expectations - it was Awful with a capital AW. Good pizza though. "Bauer Pizza" - covered in smokey Speck. Truly scruptious. They give out beer tokens with each pint. Collect 10 tokens and you get one free. My 5 tokens will go to waste.

I like it as well. the service is much better than GM and it is more Irish too. They play a lot of rebel songs too. (like The Field's of Athenrye and the Irish anthem at the end) That doesn't mean it is rough in any way! At the week end it is mostly far too crowded and they don't really have a working air condition, so it is pretty smokey and often pretty warm. Good crowd in their usually on a sunday afternoon after the football. It isn't too busy then and good for a lazy afternoon. Unfortunately the food is not very nice as they don't really have a kitchen. But it's true, the Pizze are really nice. Check the programme of the bands in there, some of them really rock.

Spent a summer in Munich, and really enjoyed the atmosphere in the Shamrock. This place was probably one of the places i miss most from Munich. Never had any trouble in there, but that may have been down to the fact that there was alwaysa crowd of us. Bar staff were extremely friendly and a good time was always on the cards.

The place is a dump. Always has been. Always will be.

Posted by: "IDidYourGirlfriend" at 12:10 am on 18.Feb.2005

why is everyone expecting trouble when they go here?

Posted by: "blob" at 5:17 pm on 19.Feb.2005

Been going there for years - seems I always missed the "trouble". Nice staff for a "dump".

3 years ago, I had a summerjob in Munich. Never knew it would turn out to be the time of my life. Shared a house with 3 other girls and most of the time we tasted the nightlife of Munich. One rainy afternoon though, 2 of us ended up in the Shamrock. And there I met what turned out to be the love of my life, an Irishman. Unfortunately, I do not see him anymore. But I will always treasure the good memories of him, your pub and Munich. So thanks for that.

Posted by: "ex muenchenerin" at 2:59 pm on 26.Jul.2005

To Lanie, is this the Lanie I met three years ago at oktoberfest? She had a girlfriend named Stephanie.

Anyone heard of a place called "Patties" down the street from the U station? It's been 7 years since I've been there and was wondering if this was the same place with a different name.

Posted by: "CDS" at 4:50 pm on 24.Oct.2005

Too make it a little more clear it was down the street from the Münchner Freiheit station past the McDonalds and past the supream skateboard shop on the left side of the street. Drug raids all the time back then lol.

Posted by: "CDS" at 4:55 pm on 24.Oct.2005

You're thinking of Paddy's, not "Patties".

Posted by: "Sean McGonnigal" at 5:51 pm on 24.Oct.2005

Thanks, that's it! I remember the sting operations there. The police busting through the front door with video cameras with spot lights on em. So I'm assuming it's still there? Man, I spent so much time in that place it isn't funny. Would like to find two old friends from there anmed Tbor and Chis frun Hungary.

Posted by: "CDS" at 6:16 pm on 24.Oct.2005

Is that paddys the place with the sliding doors with the chain on the toilets music blaring and packed

Posted by: "KC" at 10:51 pm on 4.Nov.2005

Justto put the record straight.Shamrock is not a rough pub.We can't remember the last time there was a fight, those day's are well gone as any of our many regulars will tell you.during the week 80% German customers, at weekends more ex-pats.Greg the new manager is playing more 70's-90's and the customers love it. We don't apologise for being a very Irish Pub where everyone is welcome even the begrudgers.

Posted by: "PeeDee" at 9:43 pm on 17.Nov.2005

To Declan: Sona Athbhliain. I don't know if you remember me, but we met in the Shamrock in August 2002. I hope you are happy and I wanted to thank you for the short but great time we had in Munich. I will never forget you.

Went there yes'day with a small group. This was the most despicable pub I've ever been to during my 6 years in Munich. Dirty tables which were never cleaned, consistently rude behavior from both of the waitresses. Bi****s, did not even know how to ask a guest to clear way so that she could pass though. And, I was served something which I did not order.

The Shamrock is a bar for drinking !!! If you think this is some 'chicky micky' german bar to pose , forget it..This is a place to go when you are on the tail end of 12-14 beers and you want to ease the pain..its a top spot..anytime I was there I roared into the night and woke 6pm on a Sunday..its served my purpose well..and the fact its there since 1995? , well that says something ??????

We go here every time we go to the Oktoberfest (which is twice, so far) and they are always rather nice to us, even though my group can be rather hard work. The first time we went there they had a fantastic classic rock cover band, and we were drinking Tequila and Hermann Maiers all night long. That night did even outshine the Oktoberfest for us, and did put at least one of us out for the count. This year they quite kindly allowed me to put my Welsh flag up behind the bar, and I did meet three of the nicest people there - Chris the Irish-German, Cloudina the Damien Rice fan, and a very pretty Oxford Press publisher. Also, I think the dodgiest photos of the trip were taken inside that bar. I like the place. A good laugh.

It's a dump full of wannabe IRA type cowards (who can't fight - typical Irish).

Been to Oktoberfest 4 times since 2002. I had the best times in this pub. Met a dark haired Swedish girl that was incredible. We just met and made out in the bar in front of everyone for hours. Amazing, but I never saw her again. Let me know if you see her.

On my last trip to Munich I spent an evening in the Shamrock. I enjoyed the atmosphere immensely and then there was this youth in charge of the karaoke. Couldn´t take me eyes off of him! Does anyone know his name and is he Irish?

Posted by: "Lyanna" at 12:08 am on 5.Apr.2008

I used to drink in shamrock in 1990- 1992, was back last year, its still a dive

Posted by: "Danny from Termon" at 2:42 pm on 1.Jul.2008

"youth in charge of the karaoke" - bearded? Long hair? Tall? Could be any one of 5 people who run or have run the karaoke. Think there's only one Irish lad who's run the karaoke in the past while. I'm quite fond of the Shamrock, had good times there, Saturdays are normally totally jammers and good craic.

Posted by: Punchbear at 12:08 pm on 18.Aug.2008

Lyanna, I think that must have been Jackson who was doing the kareoke that night, the ladies do seem to take a shine to his aussie charms! The fella with the long hair Punchbear mentions would be christof, lovely chap but unfortunately doesnt quite has Jackos charms.

Posted by: tigress at 10:38 am on 20.Aug.2008

Ah but Jacko's taken. Tough luck girdles ;)
