Schelling Salon - Schellingstrasse 54, 80799 Munich, Germany

Schellingstrasse 54, Tel. 089 27 20 788

A very old, slightly rough-at-the-edges pool hall and pub, Schelling-Salon recently celebrated 125 years of existence and was featured in a TV documentary.

You can spend a wet Sunday afternoon here clicking your balls together (fnarr) in the gritty, slightly seedy atmosphere that hangs over the place. Lots of pool tables, cracked tile floors, worn-down wooden furniture and a somewhat dark, hangover feel to the whole place.

Non-trendy, no-frills crowd, but has some classic pool-hall characters who seem to have been hanging around for years, growing old and wrinkly playing Schafkopf, a traditional Bayerisch pub card game.

This place is shut until early September for their Sommerpause, so if you really wanna play pool look a little further West down Schellingstr. (on the South side) and you'll find a smaller pool-hall there.

The Schellingsalon is famous for the good Weißbier, the cheap and tasty breakfast and Brotzeit. (Try the Regensburger !) Till 1965 it used to have its own butcher as most of the bavarian restaurants. Beside pool and Schafkopf, you will alwayws have the chance to play chess with some locals. Their webpage also shows pictures from the last 130 years. http://www.schellingsalon.de/sitspeis/frspeise.html The same style, but somehow more modern (the people and the furniture) and with even bigger choice of meals, but no pool tables offers the Wirtshaus Fraunhofer. http://www.fraunhoferwirtshaus.de/
