Sailing School Ernst, accredited by the German sailing federation (DSV), is situated in Utting, on the beautiful Ammersee, 50km southeast of Munich easy to reach by car, bus or rail.
Sailing courses are offered in English for adults and children. The courses focus both on practical and theoretical instruction. Weekend and five-day courses are available for all levels - costs are €250 and €190 respectively. Practical instruction takes place on "Helios" keelboats in small groups of no more than five people. The "Helios" is spacious and very stable - it can not capsize.
The course dates can be seen on the Segelschule Ernst website. Courses usually start at 9.30am to 5.30pm with 1.5 hrs for lunch. Additional dates can be agreed to suit needs. The sailing school provides third party liability insurance for every participant, as well as all safety equipment.
Sailing licenses
Note that no license is required to sail on any of the lakes in Bavaria. At the end of a course, however, participants are given a "certificate of participation". This isn't a license in any legal sense, but is proof that the participant has taken a course and is thus capable of renting and sailing a boat in Bavaria.
