Rue des Halles - Steinstr. 18, 81675 Munich, Germany

I've visited this restaurant about 6 times now and it still remains my favourite restaurant in Munich. The food is divine - service friendly and efficient. Atmosphere typically French - not a hint of anything German like wood paneling or anything like that. Food rather pricey for munich, but one can have a great 3 course meal with wine for around 50 euros..... a large fish selection. I truly mean this is an exceptional place to eat! and I have visited and enjoyed very fine food. PLEASE give this a try for a special occasion or if u just feel like treating yourself!

Posted by: "Jen C." at 12:17 pm on 7.Apr.2003The menu is pricy, but saved the evening for a nice occasion. You must try the house apperitif! Really great! I also had a starter of of escargot with ris de veau (calf tonsils or something) on a bed of lentles and it was heavenly! My fish was less exciting. Very Frenchy - you really feel like you're back in France - except for the guys who ordered a round of weissbier in the back.

Posted by: "Devils Alternative" at 11:11 am on 3.Jan.2004I have eaten here at least 5 times. I agree, it must be the best resurant in Munich. I go once a year when winter ISPO is on and always get remembered by the staff. I hope to go again this weekend.
Posted by: "Sally Eastwood" at 7:45 pm on 28.Jan.2004It is closed for renovations from April 1st to May 31st 2005 - we found to our disappointment last night. It is a nice restaurant with excellent food and great service. We will go back when it opens.
Posted by: "snow2005" at 8:29 am on 14.Apr.2005Ate here yesterday, great food and found a good wine too. Service was very friendly. Seems a bit sterile inside after the renovation, but it´s very clean and modern looking. Lots of space too.
Posted by: "Paul" at 11:20 am on 23.Jul.2005Am I supposed to know what a winter ISPO is? Gee I must be one of the stupid few...
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 1:46 am on 20.Oct.2005Walked in, waited a couple of minutes, ignored by the only waiter in sight and walked out. A Tuesday night, but it seemed to be the only place in town that was pretty much empty. Sterile decor too. First impressions do count and I certainly did NOT get a warm fuzzy feeling from RdH.
Posted by: "James Pratt" at 9:43 pm on 21.Feb.2006After renovation Rue des Halles reopened in the mid 2005 under boss Pierre Reyth, former boss of "Le Bousquerey" in Haidhausen/Rablstr. 37, still existing with new boss. Having a varied history in the last 20 years, Rue des Halles had to look for more, because it's one of the oldest french restaurants in Munich with a legendary reputation, not always coming up all expectations in the past. (A lot of waiters startet here and now have their own restaurants, even Pierre!). Now the first impression is the bright and clear ambience. The food is delicious and the card has a respectable scale, even french sausage, pigeon, fish and sauce selection, seafood, quiller, scallops, bouillabaisse ... Also the service (Joseph) is very good. After visting Rue des Halles several times I have to say, that this is a successful new beginning and so this rich in tradition house can hopefully write a new long and great chapter of its great history.

Posted by: "stuckinmuc" at 3:29 pm on 2.Mar.2006We went to this place last night for Valentine's Day. At first I thought it was really cozy and enjoyed the relaxed feeling of it all and felt very European starting my dinnertime at 9 pm. However, I gradually got more and more annoyed with how slow it was. It took at least 20 minutes before the waiter even took our order and our oysters came 30 minutes after that. By 10 pm we were just getting to the soup. Our main meal took forever, and by 11 pm I was ready to throw in the towel. Our steaks finally arrived at around 11:20. I was no longer hungry and basically forced it upon my boyfriend because I hate to see food go to waste. We skipped dessert since it was already 12 and we were both too tired and full to eat any further. I was looking forward to the dessert throughout the dinner, damn. I don't know if this is the norm as it was my first time, but for that slow of service the food should be spectacular. It was mediocre at best. The fish on the table next to us looked good, though.. maybe we'll come around 6pm next time and try something else.
Posted by: "Moi" at 10:16 am on 15.Feb.2007Wanted to impress my girlfriends parents, so took them to Rue de halles & Just returned from dinner. The fact that I am writing the review quarter past 11 should convey it all. I am not a food connoisseur, but you need'nt be one to tell the difference between bad food and good food. I went there primarily because I did not get a table at le bousquerey on rablstrasse. Secondly, because of the raving reviews on this site. The food is...to say the least, mediocre ! We had lamb and Rabbit dishes, it turned out to be flavourless and bland. On a scale of 10, I would rate the main course at 5. The Wine, soup, dessert & service was good. But the main course ... not tasty. I regreted spending 180 euros for three people on this meal. May be we could have tried the fish, but I dont think I would want to find out. To summarize, TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK !
Posted by: "Food Bug" at 11:14 pm on 16.Oct.2007I was in this restaurant on the 14-th Februar 2008. The service was a catastroph, the servors are obviously not competent enough for the pretention of this restaurant. Worst: though I couldn't get my main dish after having waited more than one hour, I got no excuse from the ``Chef de salle" and left quite unhappy. I won't come back to this place, too pretentious for what it is. There are better french restaurant in Munich.
Posted by: "Disapointed" at 4:44 pm on 18.Feb.2008Went last week (30.07.08 wednesday) With my freind. The reception from the City Hilton Hotel recommended. The food was delicions, very nice wine and the two young service people were very friendly. We'll come again!

Posted by: The Aviatrix at 7:16 pm on 29.Sep.2008A couple of months ago I visited this restaurant for the first time. Standing outside I read the above comments using a mobile with a web browser. Some recent comments were a bit daunting. Decided to go in nonetheless. It was a bit empty and quiet ... ... you could have knocked me down with a feather (if it was a particularly large and heavy one). Everything was really good. Food was just right, not too intense with the garlic. The service was just right, in fact quite friendly (especially when I had to return to pick up the mobile I had absentmindedly dropped. Then return again to look for the stylus for it). And the plates were dangerously hot. First time in Munich I've come across a place which properly heats plates. I don't want to invalidate the above contributors, their experiences definitely count. All restaurants have bad days. Rue des Halles had a particularly good day. Last weekend I went back for a second time. My experience was as good as the first, and I didn't drop my mobile phone!
Posted by: ThePosterWithNoName at 11:49 am on 21.Oct.2008Went here on Friday night and have to say the whole experience was excellent !! Food was superb, wine list extensive (try the Crozes Hermitage 2000 for a taste that's just Heavenly !) and staff very attentive ... Thoroughly enjoyed it and will go back but has to be a Special Occasion, not cheap, but you pay for what you get !!
