I went to Radha yesterday evening. Its really amazing! The food tastes gorgeous and the hospitality is really better than any other Indian restaurant I have found in Munich. The ambience and the service was truly great. Being a regular visitor of Indian Restaurants in Munich, I found this as the best, in terms of food and unimaginable service.
Posted by: "Mushy" at 8:30 am on 14.Apr.2004Meal was great last night the veggie samsosas and tasted v. fresh were nice and the chicken Badam Pasanda was a nice change from all the spicy dishes I eat. They also do have nice decor which makes it different from many other Indian retaurants in munich !
Posted by: false at 7:02 pm on 9.Dec.2004We visited this restaurant on the 3rd June 2005. The waiter / owner was very friendly and helpful, the surroundings clean and well decorated. My wife and son had the Chicken Korma and I had the Chicken Tikka Marsalla. The portions were excellent... my wife and son loved their Korma but I was disappointed with my curry which seemed like a very mild spiced gravy. From what I have read on this site, it would appear that most Indian food in Munich is not particularly spicy. Prices were good.
Posted by: "jeff1164" at 7:51 pm on 13.Jun.2005Oh, I get a guilty conscience here. I live close to Radha and was a regular guest there for some time. This was in the early days when they first opened (1997). I used to give long lectures on how we Europeans cannot cope with spicy food and how they should hold back on the curries. To this day, I have never had to call the fire brigade. :-)
Posted by: "Marcoman" at 11:31 pm on 18.Jun.2005i live close to radha and have been a regular customer for the last 7 years they always prepare my curry how i like it if i feel like a spicy curry they cook one for me if i fancy it mild, they do it mild the service is always faultless, as is the food i can't recommend it highly enough
Posted by: topsy at 9:25 am on 20.Jun.2005Only place I know of that does a ginger naan. Their karahi dish is very much like a Balti and the heat level was good. The rice wasn't as good as Taj Mahal's around the corner though.
Posted by: Katrina at 10:15 am on 20.Jun.2005Yesterday I went there for the first time. I liked it. the service was good, we had lamb curry and punjabi chicken. lamb curry was mild whereas the punjabi dish was slightly hot, just nice. my chiapati was good too.
Posted by: planetmoni at 9:33 am on 25.Aug.2005I'm not an expert when it comes to individual Indian dishes, however I have been here several times and the food has always been delicious and the staff exceptionally warm and friendly.
Posted by: "Jules Winnfield" at 10:11 am on 1.Aug.2006I went here last night and the food was great. I had Chicken Tikka Masala and sampled other dishes from friends. Everything I tried was great and the service was friendly. The prices were normal for exotic food in Munich. I ran into an Indian friend of mine at the restaurant and he said that Radha is one of his favorite Indian Restaurants in Munich.
Posted by: "David" at 12:45 pm on 4.Dec.2006Indian Food for Germans. Hungry for a curry, my friend and I left Wassermann to go to Radha. On stating our intentions, another in our group laughed and warned us to make sure the owner is there; quality is supposedly questionable when he's not. The restaurant wasn't half full, and while dim, wasn't excessively dark. Unlike so many Indian restaurants seating was quite spacious. The decorations were typical but not gaudy. The owner was there. The waiter had heard us speaking English and asked if we needed English menus. Points for paying attention but no, we didn't need them and we know our way around curries. I had a Weizen, she had a Spezi, and we were asked if we'd like some papadums. Of course. A few minutes later our drinks and papadums arrived. "I brought two, plus one on the house." They charge for papadums. Not a good sign. The three sauces -- a not-too-sweet and nicely spicy mango, a spinach-based dip and the ubiquitous spicy turmeric sludge -- got our hopes up that dinner would be up to our admittedly high standards. Despite not being half full and with most diners already having been served, it still took about half an hour for my lamb ghoast and her chicken tikka masala to arrive, along with an aloo paratha and some naan. We'd specified "hot" and they'd heard us speaking English. Nevertheless the food was as spicy as the rice, itself beautifully presented. The bowls with our dishes also looked promising: they hadn't skimped on the meat.
The aloo paratha did have potato and spices inside, but was oily and bland. My lamb ghoast was more a tomato sauce in which a couple cardamom pods may have taken a brief dip. Admittedly the menu lists "mutton ghoast", not "lamb" but actual mutton in Germany is a rarity, something found at a butcher's only by accident. While not leathery, the meat was quite stringy. The chiken tikka masala sauce was quite nice despite being extremely mild and somewhat short on flavour, but the chicken inside that sauce, while tender, was incredibly salty. When I first tried it I managed to snag the one piece that wasn't salty, but I experienced the saltiness for myself at an opportune moment when my friend left the table for a minute. When he came by the first time to ask how our food was, my friend gave the waiter a quick "it's fine" brush-off. When he came back and asked again, he got a bit more information than he'd expected from me. I told him that the food was bland in general and we'd asked for it to be spicy. He returned with a large gravy boat of a spicy sauce which went well with both our dishes. He also said he could take my lamb back and "make it spicy". No! While he could've bunged it back into a pan with some chilis to add heat, the overall flavour comprises much more than the addition of some capsaicin. Unless it's to be recooked from the start there's no point and I had to tell him this three times. I did appreciate his willingness to be helpful but this was tempered by the method in which he'd planned to "fix" the food. The loud, blonde future trophy wife a couple tables over and her date both gushed over how good the food was and insisted that on the strength of that, they had to go to India. They're in for a surprise. Our waiter agreed that the food is really tuned to the German palate. It's a shame that they can't kick it up a few notches and provide more authenticity for non-Germans or those Germans who are willing to risk the more exotic flavours a good Indian meal has to offer. We were presented small dishes of a thick mango-y pudding for dessert (no charge). Our total damage for the evening was 37 for: 1 Weizen, 1 Spezi, 1 naan, 1 aloo paratha, chicken tikka masala, 1 mutton ghoast, and 2 papadums (plus one freebie). Conclusion: Pretty mild fare. Good to introduce finicky Germans to some of the basic flavours of Indian cooking but not for the curry-hearted. Food: 4/10 Atmosphere/comfort: 8/10 Price: 3/4
Posted by: "BadDoggie" at 1:54 pm on 18.Feb.2007Get a shock in India?Bloody right. If you don't like the scoff, get out, move on......so much whining about Indian scran in munich.
Posted by: "gordo" at 11:10 pm on 18.Feb.2007This place use to be really great. however, over the past months, the service and food have both made a turn for the worse. Maybe there has been a change in ownership?
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 1:28 pm on 17.Sep.2007I live locally and eat here regularly and think that both the food and service are great. We also use them for home delivery and can´t fault the quality of the dishes..i.e. plenty of meat and good spices.
Posted by: "pablo" at 2:48 pm on 21.Sep.2007It's our first visit to Radha and we enjoyed the chicken tandoori and tikka masala. Serving was huge and beautifully served. The nan bread that came with the tandoori was crispy. My friend enjoyed her masala very much. The papadum served as appetizers are free. Enjoyed the 3 dippings (chutney, yoghure & curry) that came with the papadums. Good idea to have it in a party! All in all, we had a lovely time in Radha. Not to mention the warm, mahogany-colored decor is very welcoming and cozy. Will certainly return often. Lastly, the price is good too for such a good meal!
