Hochstrasse 77, Au
The original of this place had lots of charm, some lost when it burned down in the 90s, but it is a decent traditional beer garden. The new building is large, well lit. The beer garden, complete with an area for the kids, is pleasantly shady on a hot day. Tram 27 Ostfreidhof.

If you can't wait til the next Wiesn, you can always to go there during the Starkbierfest, but you always have to book a table. If you've booked a table, turn up on time, otherwise you loose your table.
Posted by: "Saz" at 2:29 pm on 16.Aug.2005I remember watching it burn down. Same day, the word on the local streets was that it was an AMAZING co-incidence how it burt down just after the city council turned down planning permission for major alterations.
Posted by: "Beer on the Hill" at 11:56 am on 17.Aug.2005went here with a load of chums on Saturday for the Starkbierfest! top atomosphere, brill food (go for chicken or Schweinshaxe), friendly service and the Starkbier was simply yummy! (Mother Nature's very own colonic irrigator too). it's the first time I've been in the new building it does lack character but at least it's not as dingy as the old building was! good to reserve a table if there's a group of you and don't be late as your table'll get pinched!
Posted by: Moonboot at 3:03 pm on 28.Mar.2006we went to the beergarden last night, think next time we will be taking our own food. I took the Kaesespaetzle, it was dollopped on a plate, the guy serving it up then used his hands to grab a load of onions and chives to chuck on top, despite there being spoons for this purpose. we also took a Haxen, a small portion of potato salad and a Mass of beer, it all came to 26 EUROs, quite expensive for the quality of the food. the Spaetzle was rather flavourless, the Haxen too dry. nice beergarden, good atmosphere, just we will be bringing our own grub next time!
