Park-Cafe - Sophienstrasse 7, 80333 Munich, Germany

It's a Biergarten, it's a restaurant, it's a bar, it's a night club and it's part-owned by Christian Schottenhamel, the guy who runs the Schottenhamel beer tent at the Oktoberfest.

If you are stuck for a couple of hours between trains, it's only about 200m from the Hauptbahnhof. Parkcafé was the place to be during the Nazi reign due to its close proximity to the former Nazi Party HQ on nearby Königsplatz. The Biergarten is quite popular in the summer, especially during football competitions like the World Cup or European Championship, as there are two huge screens on which to watch the French football team beat the rest of the world. Parkcafé also has a large night club, which can be difficult to get into sometimes, mainly because it is in the middle of Munich's media land. Mid-week, don't bother.

Weekends, bring someone tall, slim and extremely good looking if you want to join the queue, or look good yourself if you are on the prowl, because it's definitely a pick-up/flirt joint. Also expensive, about 20DM to get in. It's a weird night club, with a huge video screen, tinsel and a mix of people that varies from scrubbed-up secretaries to boobed-up transsexuals. That's why we usually sit in the Biergarten and mope about how our various countries have gone to the footballing dogs. Inside the café section you get a very young crowd and a modern, cosy aura, with a mix of bare wood benches, dark and moody leather, scatter cushions and fantastic lighting from really awesome spun glass lights/sculptures.

At first glance I thought..'Weird' but it's a kind of cool club. Good music(house), funky lighting, free baskets of grapes on each table...only in Germany!! Bizarre but worth a look.

They recently renovated Park Cafe (re-opened in something like April or May this year). I haven't been yet but have heard rave reviews. Supposed to be one of the top new joints in town. Hopefully will get there soon!

have been to park cafe twice in the past month. young, very see-and-be-seen, fashionista crowd which can get to be a bit boring. beautiful venue though; nice design, good drinks and a layout that encourages conversation...

I like their beer garden, especially when you had to do some shopping in own and wanna escape the rush for a bit. Although it's so central it's still hidden and not much as a tourist spot as you might expect with the location. It's not that big so you dont get lost in there :)

I´m from munich and i often go to the parkcafé. I like it very much! But if you want to go there, you have to hurry up: in january 2006 it becomes a restaurant -> no more clubbing!
