Supposedly the coolest club in Munich, P1 is situated underneath the Haus der Kunst museum and it's been around for years and years and years - since 1949 apparently, with various owners.

P1 is one of those places where you want to be able to say “Oh yeah, been there, no big deal....”. It is famous for attracting the most stylish and fashionable people in town, and it is equally famous for its hard door policy.

This policy is so hard that we can’t give you an opinion on the place, because we’ve never managed to get in, and we think this will be your experience too, unless you are Julia Roberts or Brad Pitt. According to our sources, on a good night the club lives up to its reputation for being chic and breezy and sexy, and is sometimes the best club in Munich. It is full up with gorgeous, hyper-chic women, and well-off, well groomed men. But only sometimes. Sometimes it is also crap.

We tried again to get in on a Sunday night thinking “come on, Sunday night cannot be all that busy”. Arrived at the door and one of the body-builder bouncers asks “Reservierung?”. For those of you that don’t understand that question, it’s the one they use to have an excuse to not let you in. A classic. Just P1 as it is meant to be. The word on the street is that P1’s No.1 status is being challenged mightily by the new kid on the block, Pacha, so maybe the door will become less strict in the future, but don’t count on it any time soon.

P1 - Pavement art in Schwabing

Update - Summer 2004:

Yesterday, whilst strolling though Schwabing, I noticed the above chalk drawing on the pavement. At first glance it looks like just an ordinary bit of street-art by an impoverished student or something. But look in the middle and you'll recognise the logo for Munich's "most noble" nightclub, P1. I thought this was a nice bit of alternative promotion. And well executed too. They obviously hired a fairly talented artist to do the drawing. It makes an interesting change from the usual club promo-posters that you see littering walls and lamp posts all over the city. The artwork is on the corner of Wilhelmstrasse and Hohenzollernstrasse. P1 are unveiling their newly refurbished outdoor terrace this week. The opening party is Wednesday (26th May 2004). There's a fair bit of competition amongst Munich's elite nightclubs nowadays, what with the recent opening of 8 Seasons and Crown's Club. I wonder whether this means we'll see copycat drawings appearing all over Munich's pavements this Summer. Could be cool. ...

Spotted another one on Theatinerstrasse this evening... and Boris Becker on Maximilianstrasse! Was very excited and think I made a bit of a knob out of myself in front of the tennis legend, what with the starstruckedness. Oh dear....

I saw Charlie Schumann on Maxstr. yesterday evening also! I said to my gf, "Hey! That's Charlie Schumann!" And pointed right at him. He saw me. And I felt like a complete twat.

I am a bit puzzled by the "hard door policy" reputation P1 seems to have. in my experience you just walk in as long as you are not too obviously drunk. sometimes (special parties) you have to pay to get in, but usually you don't... I can easily name two or three places in MUC that are harder to get in to. anyway P1: it is actually not a bad place, but the drinks are a bit expensive. the outdoor bit is lovely.

the only time i've been to P1 i went in jeans and sneakers with my hair in a ponytail and minimal makeup on... and it was a sat night... i think the tough door policy is just a rumor! wouldn't go back because the people bored me to tears and the music was commercial cheese... nice venue though!

went to p1 on thursday, we're 18. two of us turned up at about 11, i was wearing converse sneakers, jeans and a t-shirt and jacket, my mate in jeans and a shirt and we walked in no problem. the drinks were 15 euro for a vodbull, but the place is awesome. very very pretty girls and the venue itself is great. love the flames round the white sofas outside! also went to pacha on tuesday, that had a younger clientelle but they played some great cheesy music and we had a great time from about 1.30-5. my advice is go to pacha later and go to p1 earlier. prost.

Professor Werner Mang, Germany's most famous 'nose and boobs' surgeon, will be holding a party here on 4th September 2004 to celebrate the 18th birthday of his daughter, Gloria. The same date also happens to be his own 49th birthday. Many of the jetset-crowd from Munich and all over Germany are expected. Entry is by personal invitation only. So unless you've had a boob-job recently you'll probably have to make do with just reading about this party (back page of the AZ the following day) rather than attending in person.

Mang? That's the guy who saved Michael Jackson's nose. See: Jackson Nose Job

Noticed these comments are a bit out of date. I am hoping to go to P1 this saturday, has anyone been more recently, and can give me an update on the price of drinks and what events and what kind of music will be on on saturday? Thanks

Looks like P1 status is going down the drain... they now have gay parties too! Premiere was tonight, maybe you saw their cheesy flyers in town (with pixel drawings of the 2 DJs with mouths wide open like inflatable dolls) Don't get me wrong, i have nothing against gays, i'm just highly suspicious when clubs start throwing gay parties on weeknights, because it sounds so like "hey, business is bad, let's do a gay party and milk the fags!!!" Rather demeaning for our sensitive friends, and never a good sign: look at crown's club for example... So, the beginning of P1's end? On the brighter side, it could mean they'll loosen up at the door and we'll all finally get to check this place for ourselves

GREAT SCENE!! I was there 2005 oktoberfest and somehow someway got in. Jeans, T-Shirt and Timbs....I'm american so I was oblivious to the "chic" crowd and most celebrities in there. I did recognize Boris Becker and Oliver Kahn.... Drinks were on the upper end but worth it being around some stylish and sophisticated hot women...I recommend it if you are young, single, and have some thread to throw on...shout out to my gk drinnkin team..DNO

@JO The midweekpartys are mainly organized by the employee so as the barkeepers. At the time of "homme sweet homme" we had a gay barkeeper who wanted to run a party between the week. So I guess you are little wrong. By the way P1 has never been better. Of Course the capacity is a little big and maybe the club isnt that exclusive like in the 90s but the magic remains and the stars still come here. Every competitor in munich will tell you that theres no other than P1...
