Nürnberger Bratwurst Glöckl - Frauenplatz 9, 80331 Munich, Germany
They don't come much more Bavarian than this. The Bratwurst Glöckl was founded 1893 and as well as the city center restaurant they also have house at the Oktoberfest every year. Both locations are always packed. On offer are sausages and beer... and other Bavarian specialities.

When the Augustiner Am Dom is closed on Sundays people are sometimes directed to this place. Quite why I don't know... they rarely serve a full half litre it's more expensive for food and beer it's dark inside and there are more waiters/waitresses than customers
Posted by: "peter" at 12:55 pm on 21.Feb.2005At E3.40 a half litre for Helles it is expensive. But since the top half of the glass is froth you rarely get 9/10ths of that and if you were lucky enough to then that costs in at E3.78 a litre. Is that the most expensive beer in Munich?
Posted by: "Roland" at 3:11 pm on 18.Apr.2005Sorry, I meant it costed in at E3.78 per half litre. I wish...
Posted by: "Roland" at 2:00 pm on 19.Apr.2005Went to this place over the weekend. It was indeed expensive, but I did have one of the best Schweinebraten I've ever eaten. I would highly recommend it.
Posted by: "mrbrain" at 5:26 pm on 30.Jan.2006This place it possibly the worst baverian place I've been to. The service was rude, the beer over priced and not to mention the food. Also they seemed to be lacking in veggie options, when we asked for something without meat it came with ham in it. Not going there again!
Posted by: "linda" at 6:16 pm on 1.Jun.2007You went to a Bratwurst place and ask for veggie options to no avail and got angry? I know how ya feel. I went to a veggie resturant and asked for something with meat in it and they were quite rude to me also. But I am curious. Is it possible to have a vegetarian Bratwurst? I mean that they would have to stuff the intestines of a vegetable with vegetables. Do vegetables have intestines? take care, space space
Posted by: space at 12:00 pm on 2.Jun.2007Dude you're funny! I wasn't going eat there, I just went there for a drink. But then I found kasespaetzle on the menu..when ordering it I asked (in German and English) if it had meat in it, she said that it had spinat. So I ordered it. When it came, there was ham in it. I then called her to tell her..She said it wasn't meat it was just ham. And by the way you can get veggie wurst. Learn something new everyday don't ya spacey!
Posted by: "linda" at 5:15 pm on 5.Jun.2007Well, the fact that they throw ham in the food without considering it meat makes this a VERY Bavarian restaurant in my book. :-) One of my first dining experiences in Munich was here (circa 2000). I asked for a "meatless" salad and it came with bacon on top, which the waitress didn't consider to be "real meat". (I learned to be very specific about my ordering after that, a good survival tip for the dietary-challenged in Bavaria.) Being one myself, I will say that this is not a good option for vegetarians, but great for meat eaters. I take all out-of-town visitors here at least once. They all love it. If you're looking for an authentic Bavarian experience, bacon, ham, brusque service and all, this is the place. You're missing out if you don't try it once and you'll be in good company if you do: my favorite sighting was summer 2006, when Prince Albert was at the table next to mine. He had the signature dish and cleaned his plate.
Posted by: "MD" at 2:00 pm on 21.Jan.2008Agree with MD, this is a very Bavarian place, not fancy but quite a lot of fun if you're willing (and not a strict vegetarian). I've had sausage from all over and their Nürnberger Bratwurst are wonderful--really tasty, succulent little sauages (NOT for those on a diet or who can't abide fat). Used to be family run, but since bought out still has good food and is still worth a visit.
Posted by: "soloista" at 5:44 pm on 21.Mar.2008Absolutely LOVE this place. Went there with my family over 20 years ago and just went back a couple weeks ago. Get the specialty of the house, the rostbratwurst, and you won't be disappointed. INCREDIBLE! The beer is served from wooden kegs. Maybe the service isn't the best and it's a bit more for a beer. It more than makes up for it in its strong points. Not a good place for vegetarians...
