Noor Jahan - Munich

Noor Jahan - Kaiserstrasse 5, 80801 Munich, Germany

Fairly decent Indian food. Not the best in Munich by a long shot, but nothing too awful either. Cosy kinda atmosphere inside. And they have a quiet beer garden round the back in the summer also.

Had the beef vindaloo here on Saturday. Very nice. Had the chicken jalfrezi a couple of months ago - not so great. Dunno if the chef was changed between these two visits, or whether the vindaloo is always better than the jalfrezi. Your milage may vary. Only complaint really - they don't serve popadoms for free when you arrive, as is customary at most of the other curry houses in Munich.

Been there yesterday for the first time. Nice and quiet, even for a Monday, friendly staff and good, reasonably priced food.

Been twice, unlikely to go again. Nice ambience and service but the food misses the point. They don't seem to understand which ingredients go in which dishes (for instance Peshwari Naan does not involve minced chicken(!), even the manager confirmed it should be almond paste but the chef seems to disagree; Pilau rice usually involves saffron and not chopped peppers with peas). Spice is limited to bland levels. Shame because you can see they have potential.

Been there twice so far and had vindaloos and tandoori. The service was warm, food was hot and their beer garden was cool. The food may not be good as Goa, but was very good. I only wonder why the place was nearly empty when we dined there. I thought the place deserved more attention. Here is their website: www.noor-jahan.de

Eating in was tasty, well presented, averagely overpriced, had average portions, spicier than UK/US equivalent. I had Thali. Service actually hostile. Takeaway Biriani (sent the bird to avoid the angry little man) was pretty poor in terms of size, value. Beer garden at back with seats.

I have been yesterday in Noor Jahan restaurant munich with my friends. I must say very delicious food, firendly service and beautiful atmosphere.

we enjoyed a lovely evening in the beer garden the other evening, with delicious food (excellent butter chicken, lamb biryani, gingery dahl) and starters, and very friendly service. Really low key and pleasant evening.

Went with TT curry night. Service VERY slow (2 hour wait for food), and the waiters appeared only sporadically to serve drinks, however, the service was polite, and the chicken jalfrezi had just the right amount of kick. Gents toilets also spotlessly clean.

I went to this restaurant yesterday with some friends who were solidly behind my suggestion to choose the Noor Jahan for the Curry Night. (There were more new people than I expected, too.) I wanted to prove to myself that I really could not trust my perceptions about this place. I had remembered it as a tasty and friendly restaurant from my first visit there in April 2009. However, some people weren't of the same opinion. And surprise, I liked my Fish Tikka and the service was friendly and quick. Wondering about this contradiction, I came to a conclusion. Either my taste differs extremely from the taste of the Curry Night veterans or the restaurant has improved its services. I suppose it is the latter. The restaurant seems to have applied the KAIZEN quality control management tool, which means steady improvement of services by learning from complaints of customers and from noticing deficiencies themselves. I would put it like this: It probably doesn't deserve a star but it serves tasty food, offers good service, doesn't cheat and has a very nice beergarden for the summer. I cannot say anything about the "hotness" of the food though because I don't like too hot curry. I leave this assessment to a "hot-curry-eater". If you want to suggest this restaurant for a future Curry Night, don't be oversensitive and don't let yourself be put off by people who haven't learned the Buddhist teaching yet that things are constantly changing.

Recently organized a lunch at work with about 40 people taking part and ordering from their menu. Apart from being a little late in the delivery, everything was lovely and the colleagues at work want to do it again. We ordered everything from German mild to English hot and it was great. We really enjoyed it and what a change from the normal cafeteria crap we are usually stuck with at work.

Convenient location and generally reliable service and food. Some dishes have tended to be a little too salty, but never enough to stop me returning.
