Nektar - Stubenvollstr. 1, 8 Munich, Germany
Nektar opened in April 2003. This is one of the chic'est and most expensively designed bars in Munich. It attracts similar clientele to those seen at P1 or Pacha. Dress well if you want to stand a chance of getting in.

The bar has a number of areas. One of which is an all pure white dining area. There are no dining chairs and tables as such. Instead you recline on the white couches and eat off little couch tables like you would in a hospital bed. Make sure you take your shoes off before getting comfy!

hey, we were there with the company, pretty strange location and great cocktails, Can't really tell the prices as everything was paid by our company. I thought it is a really nice experience but would probably not go there again. Waiters or waitresses (you can't really tell what they are) are friendly and most of the time we were busy guessing there gender etc. they were rouged like transvestites and had very tight clothes very coulorful and they acted fairly gay. The food was "unusual" like Entenpraline on Rucola and boiled ginger and scallop as starter all arranged very nicely on a huge plate. the main course was some meat. the taste was excellent, but the portions were tiny. but sitting or more lying on a white "matrace" goes through the whole room, is a cool experince and funny to see which socks everybodys wears before they put on the white given socks. Cocktails are awesome. Definitely a place to go for something different. People in their are as mentioned before pretty posh. We had also a singer (it, as we called the person using a huge dildo as microphone) - very excessive performer and a lady who was reading tarot cards. Music in there was chilling so u actually have to take care u don't fall asleep as u are lying down already anyway. :-)
Posted by: "Anon" at 3:18 pm on 26.Jan.2004Tonight is Nektar's 1st birthday. They're having a "Champagne Extravaganza". The blurb says: visual pleasures by Mental Architexture, vocals by Louie Austen, and hosted by Ivan van Boys. 7 pm - open end.
Posted by: "Editor Bob" at 7:26 am on 7.Apr.2004the nektar birthday was one of the most delicious estetical experiences that munchen ever had... the ladys from mental architexture were simply fantastic with their great tasty visuals giving nektar an ambient never seen before using 7 beamers and flat screens. wow! visual pleasures rock!!!
Posted by: "miriam" at 1:37 pm on 22.Jul.2004There is an awesome opera singer who performs there sometimes - her name is Elke Slawitscheck and she has a voice that is very reminiscent of Anna Netrebko. I don't know precisely when she signs there, but it is worth going to see her when she does. I'll probably be there again at her next gig.
Posted by: "Mini" at 12:18 am on 23.Jul.2004Well this is definitely a place worth experiencing. V surreal, v cool and quite relaxing with it. Unless you are standing in the bar area I imagine it could be hard to meet people as lying on those beds trying to stay awake is not very conducive to conversation. Was pretty quiet when we got there last night, Saturday, at 1am. Seems we are always late for the party? Where is everybody?
Posted by: "SUB" at 1:35 pm on 9.Jan.2005Nektar will be having their 2nd anniversary party this Wednesday (16th March 2005). The DJ line-up is as follows: Restaurant: Suad G (Klick Rec.) Club: "Doctor Music" DJ Reinhold Bar Rouge + Salon Orange: Jon Basel, Lars Krone
Posted by: "Honey Bee" at 7:21 am on 14.Mar.2005I thought it is a really nice experience but would probably not go there again. A bit too spaced out...
Posted by: "c." at 11:19 pm on 21.Jul.2005Nektar is not just a restaurant, it is a complete entertainment experience. This is an evening out that will please all your senses...EXCELLENT cuisine, spectacular environment, impecable service, outstanding entertainers...all as you lay on comfortable white sofas high off the floor. The restaurant itself is something you most likely have never seen before. The music, the lighting, the ambiance...you can tell a great deal of love and pride has gone into this place. You are surrounded by big pillows, gorgeous people, and an atmosphere that surpasses anything else Munich has to offer. You arrive at 8 and finish off your delicious dessert and after dinner drink around 12. On weekends the restaurant turns into a club and you can carry the night on into the wee hours. Nektar doesn't miss a step. The food is fantastic...4 courses, a wonderful selection of wine. As it is a restaurant, the focus is on the food...it is TOP quality! I have been there a half dozen times now and each time, I am amazed at what the chef creates and how he prepares such quality dishes for so many. The idea that the entire retaurant dines together. Everyone is served at once. In between courses you are entertained by an unbelievable opera singer, or a poetry reading, or a man who will blow up a giant balloon and get inside it. You will laugh, you will be amazed...you will definitely be entertained! It isn't dinner theater...it is a restaurant that wants to give you a full experience. In between the entertainment, your eyes and ears are stimulated with lights and sounds that create an atmosphere unlike any in Munich. As a music lover, the DJ during the evening always impresses me. I can definitely say, each time I left Nektar I am completely satisfied in every respect! If you are looking for a special evening, a romantic night out, a night with the girls, or a fun night with friends, Nektar is by far the best restuarant in Munich. Hats off to the creaters! I HIGHLY recommend it!
Posted by: "Double K" at 12:02 pm on 10.Aug.2005Of course, Double K doesn't work on commission for Nektar, or anything ;)
Posted by: "Double K Doubter" at 2:49 pm on 18.Aug.2005Just because someone anonymously writes a flattering review of a location that doesn't immediately mean that they are on commission. I think you need to be very cynical to think that. Some folks are naturally enthusiastic and like to share their enthusiasm with others. I agree though, Double K's review is a little over the top.
Posted by: "Doubting Thomas" at 3:09 pm on 18.Aug.2005I am a cynical person. However, the above accusation was based on the style of their writing, written as though it were an advert e.g. " You will laugh, you will be amazed...you will definitely be entertained! " "On weekends the restaurant turns into a club and you can carry the night on into the wee hours."
Posted by: "Double K Doubter" at 4:45 pm on 18.Aug.2005I really don't like the schicky-micky scene, but Naktar was a cool experience. The food was very good, paced well, and broken up with little bits of entertainment in between, which were quite fun. I'd strongly recommend going for dinner, although I believe it's fairly pricey (we were invited) Not sure how it is if you're going just for the bar. I got the feeling it was another pose-down to see who can get in...
Posted by: "chris" at 10:08 am on 22.Aug.2005went on saturday too. it wasn't chic at all as far as I could see - been once before and it was very much so. but the cocktails were pretty bad, tasted bland and were lacking alcohol.
Posted by: "paul" at 9:39 pm on 22.Aug.2005I went to Nektar in November and had an amazing night. I have been promoting some of londons 'it' clubs for years and I think that 'Nektar' is one of the best clubs i've been too. My only complaint was the food, which was excellent, but the courses were too small and spread out, so I spent most of the evening quite hungery! The service however was fantastic. Very friendly staff, and wonderful entertainers. I have booked for New Years. It really is a fabulous place, beautiful people, great design and refreshingly unpretentious...
Posted by: "Rowena" at 6:54 pm on 2.Dec.2005This place was amazing. Went there for New Year's Eve - Just a really relaxed, chilled out atmosphere. Music was sometimes a little loud to talk, but it quietened down around 2am. The drinks were just fantastic, (Have a Strawberry Daquiri). The staff were all too happy to help, and met some of the nicest people on the bed next to us. Perfect place to go with a small group of friends to just lounge about and look trendy. Most people were aged 21-late thirties. Definitely not a 'teeny' club. Call before hand to get on the guest list. Nektar - A MUST for anyone with style and a very open mind.
Posted by: "Mishmash" at 10:24 pm on 6.Jan.2006After a very disappointing New Year's at Nektar, I wrote them a letter of complaint (see below). I received a German-style letter of apology that implied that I was delusional. Here we go for the letter: My friends and I especially reserved places at your exclusive New Year's Eve party, as we were assured that this was the best way of bypassing the "crowds at the door". As it turns out, the Munich crowds had had the good sense to go elsewhere - having fun, no doubt, in locations that are not simply an over-priced and pretentious imitation of "big city" glamour. The 10 Euro cover charge supposedly covered "live" entertainment. Nektar was dead. And there was no entertainment - apart from a barman's super-glued hairdo. A countdown to the New Year? The clink of Prosecco glasses? The point of the occasion seems to have bypassed your staff, who chose to ignore the strike of 12 completely. New Year's? What New Year's? Perhaps they were too busy super-gluing their hairdos. My New Year's Resolution: never to go back to Nektar. Your New Year's Resolution: host funeral wakes instead of parties.
Posted by: "Nikki" at 6:06 pm on 24.Jan.2006hmmm, poor imitation of the supper club. it's nice and all that but it just lacks that laid back feel of the dutch original and is wayyyy to chicky micky (or however you choose to spell it). we had a lot if fun there at a stag do last year, don't get me wrong, but it's just trying tooo hard. if you're ever visiting amsterdam, pre-book spots at the original supper club. now that's entertainment!
Posted by: "grazz" at 9:23 pm on 24.Jan.2006I quite like the place, friendly enough and the food was good. I just can't get cosy in there though, it's just too stylised rather than functional :) Also, the cocktails are quite bad compared to Negroni or other good cocktail places.
Posted by: "Paul" at 11:45 am on 25.Jan.2006tries to be cool, fails miserably.
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 2:08 pm on 2.Feb.2006ItÂ’s not my all-time-favourite bar. The interior design is modern. The music is good. Staff friendly. Just to hang out with friends, for a drink or two? Anytime!
Posted by: "HairyHarry" at 11:39 am on 8.Feb.2006i have been to nektar 3 times and each time the experience gets better and better. i have to take the time to thank tom for introducing me to such an exciting concept. bravo to the staff and all who are involved in such a wonderful place.
Posted by: "femi" at 1:14 pm on 14.Feb.2006Hands down the best classic Martini I've had since landing on the Continent. The staff are friendly, speak fluent English and truly enjoy themselves, you can feel the passion. Tom,the owner was wearing jeans and t-shirt so don't feel like you have to break out the black dress and pearls. There were a lot of casually dressed folk. I had the kartoffel and truffel soup followed by the walnut pesto fettuciin with grilled prawns. I had the opportunity to have a drink and conversation with one of the cooks, Gap. He is truly living his dream. Trained as a medical technician, he always had a love for cooking. He loves his job, he loves his boss. In my opinion, you cannot buy better staff than the enthusiastic one. I give Nektar two thumbs and both big toes up!
Posted by: "dory" at 2:57 pm on 19.Apr.2006DON'T GO HERE. This is yesterdays warmed over vomit. My boyfriend made a reservation at Nektar for our anniversary. Long story short, we walked out before finishing our first cocktail. The crowd was LAME, wannabe munich chickeria. A couple older fashion criminals and a bunch of young proletarian twenty somethings chain smoking and being uncouth. I'm surprised we weren't slapped in the face when ordering our 11 Euro prosecco (we were dressed very nicely and had reservations!) as the staff seemed to think indifference and arrogance equals quality service and confirms an 'exclusive' environment. To add to this utterly classless experience, our server was wearing black socks with white hausschue - was the idea here that his taste was soo bad that it somehow became good? - or was it just lounge chic run amok? Definitely did not give us the feeling that we were about to have a special night at a nice place. After we saw the shabbily kept first lounge -oooh sofas you can lay down on with some nasty old orange blankets thrown over them in a room choking with smoke (we're going to eat in this?)- and drinking our mediocre cocktails, I looked at my boyfriend and said 'Let's get out of here, this place is going to ruin our anniversary'. He prototested that the reservations had to be made two weeks in advance...I told him there's a sucker born every minute, and I'd rather get a doner and sit on the Isar then pay these losers to tar and feather us. He got our coats, mumbled some excuse to the bartender and we left. We ended up going to Pacific Times, were the bartenders/watiers were friendly but casual, we had lovely steaks and a very happy aniversary indeed...all the more exciting since we felt like we had made a prison break from Nektar.
Posted by: "lareina" at 1:15 pm on 9.Apr.2007Nektar has taken to doing the 'Nektar goes Pacha' clubbing at the Pacha terrace for the summer...weather permitting so that is :)
Posted by: "Zydenbos" at 4:09 pm on 9.Jul.2007DON'T GO HERE. Then next time I am in Munich there will be more chance of me getting a reservation. Well done to the 'guys' there for a wonderful evening. An experience, although not unique, was carried off with class and effect. The food was great and for no other reason, it's worth going for that. I WILL RETURN! Thanks
