MVV – 1 Network. 1 Timetable. 1 Tariff.
The MVV (Munich Transport and Tariff Association) is a transport association that ensures the convenient and easy use of regional public transport in and around Munich. There is only one timetable. One can travel throughout the entire association network with only one ticket, and one pays the same tariff irrespective of how many transport companies’ services one uses. » more

There is currently no S-Bahn line S3 in Munich. It will, however, be brought back on the 14th December 2004 and most of the other lines will also be re-arranged:
S1: Freising/Flughafen - München (no change to current plan)
S2: Petershausen - Erding
S3: Nannhofen - Ebersberg
S4: May be replaced by S8
S5: Herrsching - Ostbahnhof - Holzkirchen
S6: Tutzing - Ostbahnhof - Kreuzstraße
S7: Wolfratshausen - Ostbahnhof
S8: Geltendorf - Ostbahnhof - Flughafen
S20/27: No change to current plan
Also, a 10-minute timetable will be introduced on the following routes:
Weßling - Zorneding
Deisenhofen - München
Maisach - Ostbahnhof
The S-Bahn's are now back to normal. The weekend closures are over. For the past few months the common line between Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof was closed from 8pm on Saturday through til Monday morning. Now the line is open all weekend. It had been closed for installation of electrics to correctly signal the new 10-minute timetable. As mentioned above, the new timetable will be introduced mid-December 2004.
Posted by: Lottie at February 17, 2004 08:20 AMits very good system in Munich.
But the automatic ticket vending machines have all instructions printed in German only. So u need to ask any German speaking person about how to ahve a ticket.
but the train system is beutiful.
I am from Mumbai/India.
Last week I was In Munich.
Does anyone know if the changes mentioned above due on 14 December are still going to happen? I'll be over all next week and usually take the S2 to Unterhaching. Would it change to the S5 the middle of next week? The MVV web site was not much help. It was bad enough waiting @ Rosenheimer Platz 3 weeks ago for an S8 that was never coming due to track work. Gotta learn more German!
Posted by: John Miller at December 7, 2004 10:26 PMOh yes, if you use the MVV journey planner for a date after 13th, you see the new line numbers. (But at least you'll only have to wait 10 minutes for the next one now).
Posted by: Paddington Bear at December 8, 2004 10:32 AMOh what a public transport system. the best I come across any where. more countrys should follow it. instructions are also in english. go too the main trainstation and buy a ISARKARTE to cover your stay and travel in munchen. cheap way of getting about. trams trains etc on time every 5/10 min. wonderful simply wonderfull. well done munich
Posted by: jake lake at February 23, 2007 01:52 PMIt's too BLOODY expensive. What is the government here doing with my money? I mean I gave them half my salary last year in tax and surely they are ripping off the rest of the F**king working population, can they not pay you MVV guys a bit more to oil your smelly buses?
