Last week hailstorms, this week earthquakes! Erdbeben in Bayern reported a 5.2 tremor originating in Slovenia at 15:04 hrs today. Not too spectacular from a Bay Area perspective, but still, nothing to sneeze at. No reports of damage, and with Munich's distance from the epicenter, chances are most of you didn't even feel it. Only a few people in high rise buildings may have noticed some rattling of the furniture. Earthquakes don't strike Munich very often. Indeed, the last one to hit Bavaria was in February 2002. On average there are two or three quakes here per year. ..did the Earth move for you? (Thanks to Avery for this one)

There was another earthquake Saturday night. Originating in Freiburg and measuring 5.4 on the Richters. Apparently the taller buildings in Munich wobbled a bit. It was at 2.52 am though, so I was asleep and never noticed it. Did anyone else?

Check that "Erdbeben in Bayern" link above for more info.

I felt it too!

I completely forgot about it until I read this post. It was weird cos it felt as if I woke up slightly before it, there was a small rumble then the windows rattled. I thought it was the aftershock of having a curry the night before, so I just rolled over and went back to sleep.

I was about 6km away from the epicentre that night. Slept through the whole thing, and only woke up when someone knocked on my door and since the pets went crazy and panicked and wouldn't calm down.
Yes, my sleep is very VERY deep.

I'm reviving an old topic.
But me and my wife felt an earthquake about 5 minutes ago.
We thought that are no earthquakes in this part of Europe.
Did you felt something?

Here we have "earthquakes" whenever a metro runs under the street/building you're on/in. The building where I have most of my classes, you can feel on every floor whenever there is a metro passing under it, i.e. every few minutes.

The worst earthquake we have experienced in the Munich region, was in 1976, when Friuli in northern Italy was flattened by one. We were baby sitting and the child ran into the lounge asking if a lorry had hit the house. Furniture moved, lights swang and chaos broke out in some places.
I didnt notice any of the recent ones.
