Mugal - Sonnenstrasse 12, 80331 Munich, Germany

From street level Mugal looks like a fast food shop and nothing more. Well, downstairs it is. Upstairs and hidden from view however, is a nice restaurant. I've never eaten in the restaurant section, but have tried the fast food curries many times. The Chicken Jalfrezi is fantastic! Very spicy, the way it should be. And your dish is prepared within a couple of minutes.
If you're on a beer crawl in this area of town, Mugal is your best bet for that late night instant curry hit.

Agree with the original review - the fast food curry is excellent.

Posted by: "val" at 10:11 pm on 13.Aug.2004I ate upstairs on Saturday night (14/8/2004). The decor is a bit spartan but the curry was great. At last a Munich curry house that can make a Vindaloo that is hot and spicy. I asked for it to be sehr scharfe and they rose to the challenge. Excellent I will be going back there again.
Posted by: "david allen" at 9:53 am on 16.Aug.2004Had a jalfrezi there last night. Hot? Not half. Hurt on the way out this morning, too.
Posted by: "Johnny Ringsting" at 8:15 am on 20.Aug.2004I've eaten last Friday in the fast food area downstairs. It is unpleasant and a bit dirty. I had vegetables in red curry. The curry was so liquid that I had to eat it with spoon. The bill was 8,90 Euros, which is much tooooo much for that small portion I got. It is definitely not a good place to eat. I will surely not come back.
Posted by: "Boro" at 12:34 pm on 6.Sep.2004"Red Curry" doesn't sound terribly indian. Are you sure you were in the right place? Certainly the vindaloo I had here a couple of weeks ago was really good.
Posted by: "davidallen" at 4:12 pm on 6.Sep.2004I know that Red Curry doesn't sound Indian, but yes, they serve also Thai food. Since I am vegetarian, I wanted something with vegetables and this was the thing I know and like from Thai places. So I gave it a try and was sorry. About Indian dishes, I will give them another try maybe, but what I saw doesn't look appealing, despite good reviews here. And have to say, it is quite expensive for the amount you get.
Posted by: "Boro" at 5:25 pm on 6.Sep.2004Yowsers! One of the hottest Jalfrezi's I've had in a while. Delicious though.
Posted by: "Mr Burns" at 10:55 am on 6.May.2005The other night they'd closed already but let us carry out. So we headed to McDonalds on Karlsplz and ate our take-away Mugal curries upstairs there. Four of us. The cleaner saw but didn't say anything. She didn't report to the manager either. Which was nice. The best McDonalds meal I've ever had! And yes, the Jalfrezi's are killer sharf. They don't hurt the next morning though. Not sure if that is a good thing or not. I like to think it is.
Posted by: "Cheeky Monkey" at 8:14 pm on 6.May.2005A terrible, dirty "restaurant?" with an unfriendly manager. Forget it!!!!
Posted by: "Viva Zapata" at 4:03 pm on 21.Nov.2005ate at this place a couple of days ago. i am an indian and the vegetarian food and veggie paratha ordered did not look or taste indian! quite strange food in fact. not very tasty either though it was hot! so, even though i hate to walk long distances for meals in the evening, probably will not go to this restaurant again. service was mighty slow even though there were not that many people in the restaurant.
Posted by: "ranga" at 4:04 pm on 27.Jan.2007On my previous visit to Munich we (office team) ate at the Ayurveda restaurant. The chef was from India and spoke perfect punjabi, was excellent in cooking and made speciality dishes to our liking which we thoroughly enjoyed. On a recent visit again I decided to do a take away meal from Mugal as it was convenient to the Hotel. WHAT A MISTAKE ! I asked for Chicken Jalfrezi (medium to hot) which came with Rice, Smaosas and Mango cream as part of a meal. Upon reaching the Hotel I took 2 spoons of the curry in my mouth, it was the most disgusting/revolting curry I have ever tasted in my life. The chef had put 3-4 spoons of Thai chilli powder in a normal chicken curry and just heated it up (and obviously called it Jalfrezi). It almost burnt my mouth and all I could taste was just Chilli and nothing else. The Samosas were dry and horrible with disgusting filling and the Mango cream was not anything to Dance about. The whole meal was immediatly binned! I would not be visiting this place even in my dreams, not a pleasent experience at all. If you want to save your money and have a descent meal, go to Ayurveda instead, you will love it.
