Mongo's - Oberanger 28, 80331 Munich, Germany

Mongo's is new Mongolian barbeque restaurant in the city center. They opened 22nd February in the premises of the former Hiscox Art Bar. I've not been myself yet but ganz muenchen have been raving about the place for two weeks already. So maybe this one to check. They might be good for a quiet brunch. Hiscox was always that kind of joint. Oberanger 28, near St. Jakobs Platz.

Mongo's is fantastic. The staff are really friendly and the food is great. I went there for a leaving party for a collegue. It was easy to make the reservations (online reservations are confirmed quickly to the supplied email address) and they managed to cater for 39 peopple who all wanted seperate bills. Another plus is that it has good ventilation we were sitting right next to some smokers and we hardly noticed it

And another plus is they have without doubt the funniest name of any restaurant I have ever seen!

Also very impressed. Although they don't advertise it, they actually have a non-smoking section, which I found out about when they phoned on the day to confirm the booking (nice touch, don't know if they do this with everyone, or just because we were a largish group) and asked if we wanted smoking or non-smoking. The food was excellent. They had a great choice of meat (kangaroo, elk, springbok, chicken liver, in addition to the usual lamb, beef, pork and chicken), seafood, vegetables plus loads of herbs, spices, nuts, etc add to your dishes. The various marinades were also really good. Also, although they don't list them on the online menu, they do cocktails, but unfortunately there's no happy hour. The serice was good, and the staff friendly, although when I ordered a round of schnapps, the waitress automatically brought us all large (4cl) shots, rather than the standard 2cl, which I hadn't realised until the bill came, so it may be worth specifying small/standard when ordering shots unless you want the large. The other thing worth mentioning, for those who've been to mongolian bbq's in other countries, and are used to giving your food to the chefs directly, and getting it back 2 minutess later, is that you add your's to the queue waiting to be cooked, and the waitress then brings it to your table when it's done, which can take a little while if they're busy. This just means that if you're really hungry, you may have a little wait before you get to eat, but it makes you have a bit of a break between helpings, so you can probably sqeeze more in before you're stuffed (and you will be by the end with the all-you-can-eat option). Definitely recommended, and would definitely go again.

Mongolain Food, great restaurant for a special occasion, something different, and they have a non smoking section and the staff are very friendly. You have a choice of lots of different marinates that you can choose from. You pick your marinate then you go to the buffet and choose your veg and meat that you want cooked. You have the option to go to the buffet once or as many time as you want (of course you pay slightly more for the option to go more time). Lots of choice of great fresh vegetables and lots of meats. Once you have added what you want cooked to a bowel you hand the bowel into the chief and the chief cooks your food in the marinate of your choice - the food is then brought by a waiter to your table. It is recommended that you book if it is going in a group. But Enjoy and it is very tasty and of course a bonus to have a non-smoking section in Munich

We went there for a team event. Great place to start a nice after work party.

Top-notch in every way except one... why is it that every restaurant in Munich seems adept at losing reservations? That aside, the service was extremely quick and friendly (with a very friendly waitress who SMILES, which is more than in most places in Munich). Great fun loading up your bowl with as many different types of meat, seafood and salad as you can fit in (all uncooked of course), and then literally just 5-10 minutes later the cooked food is brought to your table. Fast food, tasty Mongolian style! They have two main course menus, one "stuff as much as you can in the bowl" single trip to the buffet option, which was more than enough for me, and one "go back as many times as you like" option for around €20. The latter is great if you want to try different combinations of sauces with meat etc, so that you know exactly what you're eating. Otherwise it's a bit easy to get muddled up! There's unlimited rice provided too, included in the price. Excellent place, and deserves a medal for having a large non-smoking area.

Went here last night. Great food; as mentioned by Rich above. Service was friendly but a bit slow. They were admittedly busy, but we went a fair length of time before we got our bowls for the first go round and it took quite a while to get the following rounds done too. Make sure you are hungry when you go so that you can get your money's worth.

Hi, anyone been here lately? I was thinking of going for a birthday meal and wondered if it was still good and good for a group of say 10-15? Thanks.

Went there for an office party a few weeks ago - all the earlier positive comments still apply. Make sure you go for the unlimited visits option - it's only a few Euros more and makes it superb value.

another tip, check what meats they actually do have on that night before you decide what marinade you have. They dont have enough space for all the meats they mention on the menu so each night there are a couple missing. Nothing worse than chosing the 1 dish option, planning to have kangaroo or ostrich ....game meat as such, so chosing the plum marinade ..... to find they dont have those meats, and your only choice of meat that would be ok with that marinade is beef or duck.....1 of which you dont like and the other, well something you can eat every day so kinda kills the experience. But dont get me wrong, great restaurant, great food and great service and I would definately go back!

wow, first time there, and am impressed. The food was good, the service was not bad, and, well, the company I was with was fantastic. I tried one of the hottest sauces and for me needed more spice, so on the next rounds I knew to add chillies. And it seems to be smoke free! There were no ashtrays on the tables and people had to go out to smoke.
