Great place for drinks. I haven't had dinner their yet, but the restaurant side seems romantic and cozy.
Posted by: Malinee at 5:38 pm on 18.Jun.2004The dinner is great fun at this place. They have what they call a "surprise menu". So you have no idea what you are going to get. They serve up about 6-7 different courses, all delicious. It is a bit pricey (I think about EUR45), but worth it on special occasions.
Posted by: "Leena" at 4:07 pm on 8.Sep.2004Went here with a few friends for a quiet drink one evening and we were told "sorry, we're not open yet", despite there already being people there drinking and it being at least 45 minutes after opening time.
Posted by: "Master Bate's Home" at 7:44 pm on 8.Sep.2004We went here last night and were not impressed. Leave you own will at home and have somebody else take over of what you eat and drink and when. Not the right place for a nice "quick" meal. We waited in the bar for 1,5 hours and where about to leave when escorted to our table. Everybody eats and drinks the same in this restaurant and is served when the chef is ready. It was 9 pm before we started with a 8 course meal. Every course takes at least 25 minutes. So be prepared for long expensive night. They don't even give out menus. So you don't know what will come. We liked the food but you better like what is coming. Service was ok. No return for us. There are places around with nicer atmosphere and better food which you can choose yourself.
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 3:59 pm on 16.Mar.2005'Erm that's the point of the place. If you didn't know beforehand then that's unfortunate for you. I've been there a number of times and the food has always been excellent...and the service too. As far as I remember it was about 40 a head for the meal which is expensive by McDonalds, Pub food or lower end restaurants standards but considering what you are getting for your money I think it's well worth it for a special treat. The menu changes either every day or every week. The individual courses are small and well spread out so you can enjoy fantastic food and not leave feeling like you're gonna explode. They ask if you have a particular aversion to anything like fish or whatnot but apart from that the menu is set. Love the place. Plus, the bar with the different rooms is top notch. Great place.

Posted by: "xargon" at 2:24 pm on 17.Mar.2005This is a very cool bar with a nice atmosphere- classy but not schicki, good list of spirits, attentive barstaff and flattering lighting. Recommended.
Posted by: "the mongrel" at 11:02 am on 30.Oct.2005A most excellent bar/restaurant in Munich. Have not tried the 8-course restaurant meal, but have had single dishes at the bar and they were fantastic. Large and impressive selection of alcohol, including a very good variety of Scotch. The bar staff is attentive and incredibly knowledgeable. Definitely a "must-go-to" for a visit to Munich.
Posted by: "theBaba" at 11:12 am on 5.Mar.2007I organised a small surprise dinner party there for my husband and they really made an effort to embellish the table. It's definitely worth experiencing at least once for a special occasion. And I loved the concept of not knowing what you'll get for the next course. Each course was delicious as well as aesthetically pleasing. And you don't actually have to have the 8 courses, you stop when you're full and pay 5 Euro/course.
Posted by: "kimf" at 2:02 pm on 5.Mar.2007We went numerous times to Masters Home. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we always ate inside. Although their theme rooms are some type of limited conversation pieces. Their food serving concept (not knowing what you’ll get next) reminded me of a NYC restaurant. The good news is, they ask each and every person if they don’t like certain ingredients or type of meats. Hence are able to accommodate individual wishes. I like the small portions, many different servings concept. Especially since everything is prepared with a passion, well seasoned and presented in a nice way. The staff is knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. We typically paid around 40 Euro per person incl. wine (modest consumption). A great experience, certainly worth the money. Personally: I can’t wait to dine on their patio.
Posted by: z-man99 at 6:35 am on 20.Apr.2008I took my wife to Master's Home for our second wedding anniversary back in October and we had a wonderful evening. We ate in the main dining room in wing-backed leather chairs by a fireplace (that, unfortunately, wasn't lit), surrounded by walls decked with African spears, hides and ephemera. There's certainly no shortage of things to see in Masters Home - it's a bit like eating out in a live museum display. Our table had been strewn with rose petals because I'd mentioned when booking over the phone that it was for our anniversary! I kind of hoped they weren't real petals, but they were - there's no pleasing some people is there? We had a candle-lit meal to remember, despite never knowing what the next course was going to be. You're asked by the waiter at the outset if there are any particular foodstuffs you'd rather not be served, otherwise, it's down to them to fashion up a culinary treat. The whole concept is that you're colonial masters being waited on by the household staff. The concept is stretched a little when you consider that there are other 'themed' rooms in the 'restaurant' that one can choose to eat in, including a library, bedroom and even a bathroom. And the concept of colonialism was also tested when I realised that this is an Italian restaurant. Eritrea and Somalia aside, I can't really equate colonisation with pasta and pizza - can you? That said, the waiter was faultlessly attentive, reeling off descriptions of each plate of delights as though it was Italian poetry. The descriptions were suitably flamboyant but still in German - mellifluous, but incomprehensible. Thankfully, my Bavarian wife interpreted everything for me. It's worth noting that we weren't asked if we'd like the full menu or a version of it and being pretty ignorant of the protocol, we got the full bifta (naturally). We actually had no idea throughout the evening how many courses we were going to have to eat, but we rather hoped it would end soon as the eighth appeared on the table. Neither did we have any idea what it was all going to cost, there being no menus. It's not exactly tactful to ask on a wedding anniversary what the tab's going to come to. The portions are small, but they're well cooked and truly delicious. I fancied myself as a part-time gourmand giving my tastebuds a fettling good workout. And we were more than full after spending two hours savouring what is ostensibly nouvelle cuisine. Most of the courses could be consumed in half a dozen mouthfuls, so it's not as if you're stuffing your face or anything, but you learn to take your time and enjoy each forkful. Our dishes were as follows: (Spoiler alert!) 1. Cappacio of Duck in a honey and lime vinagrette with rocket salad 2. Baked aubergine and potato with tomato 3. Shrimp and scampi tagliatelle in a parmesan cheese basket with dill 4. Artichoke ravioli in a butter sauce on a bed of pineapple with truffle and marscapone shavings 5. Fillet of Victoria Bass with grilled peach and green beans in an aniseed and peppermint sauce 6. Lemon and vodka sorbet 7. Roast pheasant with date and brandy sauce and little roast potatoes (My wife had beef instead) 8. Nectarine ice-cream with fresh redcurrants and blackcurrants The wine pick is interesting too. No wine menus, simply a floor to ceiling wooden cabinet of variously dusty bottles that one can choose from depending on either your taste or proclivity to label designs. Alternatively, there's a house-appointed Merlot that we thought was top notch. The place was all but empty when we went - a Sunday evening - in fact there was only one other table dining. This didn't create much of an atmosphere, but it meant we got plenty of attention from the waiter. Our total bill for two people, eight little courses and a couple of bottles of house wine came to €150. I hadn't expected it to be quite so much, but thankfully, the credit card dug me out of a hole. Had I known the potential cost beforehand, it wouldn't have been a problem, but Masters Home seems to be all about taking predictability out of the equation. That's fine until the bill lands on the table! I would recommend it as a special treat, but phone first if it's a specific occasion, take plenty of cash with you, don't be any rush to be anywhere else soon and let wonderful food and attentive staff entertain you for a couple of hours. You'll emerge well sated and stimulated.
Posted by: Olletti at 3:04 am on 15.Dec.2008I got tipped off by my mom two weeks ago about this restaurant and it seemed like a perfect place for a nice dinner after a hard day of shopping. I went there with my BFF and we were immediately overwhelmed by the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. We knew beforehand what kind of dinner would await us so neither the price nor the length came as a surprise. The food was positively delicious and they even had a marvelous piano player that night who added to a fantastic dinner experience. After finishing dessert we paid and joined up with the crowd in the lounge to have a last drink. Overall, I'm impressed with the food and location. The downside is, the food prices have risen and a € 150 bill for two people is something you have to anticipate. If you dig gourmet food though, if you don't care too much about the price for at least one night of the year and, of course, if you can bring enough time, this is the place to be. The only major downside (there has to be a flaw, right?) is the ladies' bathroom. Its plain white design doesn't fit into the overall concept of the location and it's not very well maintained (lack of toilet paper etc). This is clearly something they need to work on; apart from that this place is very recommendable.
Posted by: "Scythe" at 9:38 pm on 22.Mar.2009We went to the Master's Home bar for a drink on August 30, 2009, and were surprised to find out that smoking is allowed there, and there is not even a non-smoking room. There were no signs at all, I have no idea how this squares with the local smoking laws. We had a quick Pisco Sour, which was good, but then left. One or two year's ago, we had a very nice dinner there, one of the more relaxing places, as you do not have to choose from the menu. But with a smoker's bar, we are not coming back soon. Quite a pity that an English-styled bar allows smoking, when it is banned all over the UK now.
