Madame Sin and myself managed to palm the Sinlets off onto their grandparents for our first weekend together without them and we went out with the attitude of hitting the first restaurant we found. The only decision was the type of food. As neither of us had eaten a Chinese in a long time it became the favourite. We got off the 27 Straßenbahn at Schellingstr. and there was Man Fat. In we go... I was astounded at the food quality. Having worked in Asia, and being partial to eating around the restaurants of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon I didn't expect such high quality Cantonese cuisine here in Munich. I have had a few Chinese meals in Munich that have been bland and chewy. The Saté Kai at Man Fat were superb... as was everything else. The service was friendly to the point of chatty. Definitely the place I will take my Chinese business contacts when they visit and get homesick for real Cantonese food. Excellent!

Posted by: "Man Thin" at 10:42 am on 13.Sep.2005Have eaten here a few times now and don't be put off by the name. The food is fantastic and service has always been great as well. Def recommend you to try it!
Posted by: "Anon" at 5:46 pm on 18.Oct.2005Used to live just down the street from Man Fat, and despite the comedy name and the slightly 1980's decor, Man Fat was always good - Foxy and I used to go regularly and always received excellent, friendly service - now and again we were offered wines that weren't on the menu and these were always worth trying. The food struck me as being quite authentic, and was certainly very tasty indeed - I only tried one or two chinese restaurants in Munich and Man Fat was easily the best - well worth a visit.
Posted by: Jimbo at 11:09 am on 14.Mar.2006I'll confirm what the others say; I used to live around the corner from ManFat and we went there often the food was ALWAYS good and the service without fault. they have a reasonably priced Mittagsmenu too with home-made giant spring rolls for starters! deffo worth trying. my mouth's watering now!
Posted by: Moonboot at 11:37 am on 14.Mar.2006I live near Man Fat and have thus eaten there a lot. I too was surprised at the high quality of its Chinese food. (And I'm Chinese.) You shouldn't be put off by the name. It's Wan Fa in Mandarin, and simply means something like "become super rich." Man/Wan means 10,000, Fat/Fa is undoubtedly short for Fa Cai, meaning become rich.
Posted by: "toggy" at 8:06 pm on 21.Apr.2007I was really impressed by my first visit to Man Fat. As one walks in one is struck by the lavish lighting and decor, well above average. The service is quick and friendly and the food fresh and tasty. The value for money is terrific. I'd definitely recommend Man Fat.
Posted by: "APJ" at 9:48 pm on 29.Sep.2007I’m glad I have experienced great Chinese food in China, Hong Kong and California. Because Man Fat certainly was not in this category. Tasteless, prepared without love. That’s just my opinion and I could be wrong.
Posted by: z-man99 at 8:43 am on 19.Apr.2008Went there last week. I ordered sweet-and-sour pork and it's nothing like those served by real Chinese cooks in Hong Kong, SE Asia, Chinatowns in US and UK! The food is so "German-ised", like those cooked by Vietnamese yet claiming to serve Chinese food! Did the old chef (since the first comment here) quit?? And the waiter was nowhere to be found even though we were the only customer (due to EM playing).
Posted by: zimmer at 10:39 pm on 16.Jun.2008This place is pretty overpriced compared to the food you get..the first time I went (November 2006) I had one of their duck dishes which was alright, but it was typical of most Chinese restaurants in Germany..bland, and as zimmer said..Germanized and cooked by Vietnamese/Thai people! The other day I had one of their roast chicken specials..and lo-and-behold it was almost the same as the duck dish I tried 1 1/2 years previously! Will not be going back there..
