I spent ten weeks in Munich over the summer - coming in from the US where an overabundance of choices when contemplating where to head for dinner - Munich in comparison offers little in terms of eclectic yet charming restaurants. Makassar is definitely an exception to this. Roland, our host, was as warm, courteous, and charming as a host could be. The food was simply divine. Give it a try. And if you are unsure what to order - ask for recommendations. Guaranteed that you'll have a wonderful evening... (reservations recommended on a weekend evening...)

Hmmm. I loved mine (warm goat cheese salad and steak tartar), she was indifferent (fish things). Hey, it's not Rue St. Denis... Next time I'll go alone, skip the salad, drink a glass or two of house red and eat my steak tartar at the bar (where it's meant to be eaten). I'll get out of there for €20 and be a very happy camper. Bien oui!

Went to this restaurant on the strength of the 2 above reviews and interesting looking website. It outperformed all expectations! Roland, our host, was lovely over the phone taking our last minute, Friday nite reservation. We arrived and he was everything a host and proprietor should be - warm, funny, personable, attentive and charming. The starter house drinks were refreshing and gave you just enough of that cozy, toasty feeling. Salads were fresh and tasty and the entrees melted in your mouth. The duck and steak are HIGHLY recommended. We will definitely return to this restaurant. It has quite possibly been our best overall dining experience since being in Munich for about 5 months. I wish more people in the German service industry took lessons from the crew at Makassar - EVERYONE was lovely. They looked like they were enjoying themselves, not like someone was holding them hostage. Can't wait to go back and test more of the menu. 2 thumbs, way up!!!

I totally agree on the comments above. Besides the food being very tasty, the personal service was top. It is the great service that makes Makassar listed in the top 5 restaurants of Munich. Try the Lychee-champagne as a toast to the good food to come! A little secret: One of their cooks/server has been the personal cook on Jack Coustau's boot "The Calypso"! Now isn't that amazing!

have been to this place a couple of times and have to say it's wonderful. The service is great, the guy who runs it is really funny and friendly and the food itself is divine!

A very lovely restaurant indeed, fabulous friendly service. Best place to sit is the bench at one end of the bar.
