Luigi Tambosi - Odeonsplatz 18, 80539 Munich, Germany

Summer in Munich sees the Terrasse of Tambosi overflowing with tourists. Situated right beside the Hofgarten, it is a magnet for visitors strolling around the centre of the town.

Slightly posh, with cosy individual nooks and crannies filled with ornate and sumptuous armchairs, Tambosi is best enjoyed in winter, when there is snow on the ground and a chill in the air. The entrance is a bit forbidding as the door is shadowed by a heavy curtain, but that's fine because it keeps the tourists on the streets.

Inside, it's like the props from a Jane Austen film have been bought as a job lot and transplanted into this lovely old building to give it life. It works as a concept, but falls down a bit in practise, as it is a complete pain finding a seat usually. Waiters are overworked and few and far between, so make sure you order everything at once and the bill at the same time if you don't want to be hanging around for an extra 20 minutes to pay. The ground floor has a crushingly small bar area to the left. In the off-season, you will be watching trustafarians and a traditional, conservative crowd of young fogies.

outside on the Odeonsplatz, has a great, spectacular view, but not easy to find a place when it´s worth a visit (this means: with good weather). outside in the court, i find it even better. Quiter and not so turistic. inside, looks as an old (in the sense of old) café in Vienna, without having the corresponding charm. In my opinion, overrated

On the interior, I think it does capture a certain old world - verging on elderly - charm, which is just fine when you're feeling a little tightly packed yourself. The problem is that two consecutive girlfriends (both locals) have had the place blacklisted on account of the truly woeful service. Admittedly, although I'm prepared to put up with it now and then, it does irk me to imagine a little fat Mr. Tambosi driving around in some Bogenhausen Benz, skimming off the top of this place's long standing reputaion and location - charging high class prices and then skimping on waiting staff. Not very stylish precious, not very stylish at all...

I hate this place.

Was there last night (up the top on the balcony) with a girlfriend chatting for 3 hours. Teas and coffees were good and my bufala mozzarella salad excellent. Was a cosy place to hang out in general and I would go there again to do the same. We liked the ambience and had no waiter problems either!

nice place but bad service. I am living near that restaurant and every time I visited that place I had a very unpolite waiter. Now, I refused to go inside. Many friends of mine had the same experience. And even the food is not as top as the prices are!
