This place is also known as the "Chicken Palace" it's great and "real" Bavarian. i.e. no fancy "fake" traditional decor...(in fact it could do with a like of paint) and no tourists. It is essentially a "workingman's" eatery. Though I've seen "Mink coats" sitting next to off duty cabbies. If you want "Uber Trendy" and pretty waitresses don't come here. They have a surprisingly wide menu even vegetarian. The food is excellent. Portions over generous. And Cheap. I can recommend the "Steak, chips & Onions" the "Schwienshaxe" (easily the best) and the Chicken! On the way in there's a hatch where you can buy virtually everything to take away. The Beers good too :-)

Yesterday night we had an incedibly bad experience in Lindwurmstüberl. We were a group of 8 people, having dinner in one of the rooms and there was also a little baby (7 months) sleeping in a stroller by the table. All went fine for about one hour, when a group of people came inside and sat just beside us and several people started smoking. We called the waiter, complaining about the smoke, and he said that "after 11 p.m. they allow people to smoke in the restaurant". Since we kept on complaining that this was (1) illegal (2) not written anywhere (3) not really good for the baby, the owner came with the following incredible arguments: - First of all, he does not agree with the smoking ban, that's why he lets the people smoke in the restaurant, even if the restaurant is not a "smoking club" - Second, he does not do it for his own financial gain, but he does it for the waitresses, since he does not give any money to them, they have to live on tips, and they get more tips when the place is full with smokers (!?!?!) - Third, it was the parent's fault to go with a little kid in a restaurant so late in the evening, as this should not be allowed and they should stay home. At that point, the conversation was so unreal, that we had only the choice of calling the police. The police came and spoke with the owner, who kept on saying exactly the same things and kept on insulting the mother of the baby that she should stay "home with the baby" instead of bringing the baby to restaurants... At that point the police remained alone with the owner for 1 minute, then came out and sinply said that they will just "write a report", but they will do no further action... recommending us to make a written notification to the authorities, if we wanted to see something happening, and then they left. (notice that, by law, they could immediately fine both the people smoking in the place AND the owner). Morale, we had to pay and leave, and the smokers remained behind us in the restaurant, happily smoking. As a last comment on this story, the whole discussion was done by the germans in the group, so there was no language misunderstanding or other typical problems of this kind. The germans too were shocked by how incredibly bullish the owner was, and how ineffective Police has been. As you can imagine, I will never step into this place again. There are other places in Munich were you can taste excellent bavarian food without giving your money to such a bollock.

So let me get this straight... you walk, during Wiesn time, into an establishment which is notoriously known as a crashdown for all the pissheads who use the U3/6 and you expect this place to be a toddlers ground? Welcome to reality. By the way police can't fine anyone regarding on the smoking ban - only the Ordnnungsamt can. The police did what they could, and smoking arrangements (or clubs) are all legal.

Smoking arrangements are legal, but this restaurant is not a smoker's club, and nowhere this is written. I guess it was not expected to find friendly children chairs or diapers changes, but at least the respect for a state law.
