Lemar is an Afghan restaurant with two locations in Munich:
Brunnstr. 4, 81479 Munich, Germany, Tel. 089 26949454
Viktor-Scheffel-Str. 23, 80808 Munich, Germany, Tel. 089 397677

This Afganisch place is run by two Afghani Brothers who understand as much about ambience as the do about their native cuisine - and that seems to be considerable. Although I haven't dined in Kandahar or Kabul lately, all the dishes I have tried here have that distinctive and well-defined character that, in my experience, suggests authenticity. Either way it is delicious and an excellent antidote for schweinebraten overdose. The entrees are of the delicate bite-size type and come with tasty and somewhat unusual spicy sauces for that added kick. The mains are well proportioned and range from vegetarian to lamb, served with excellent sauces reminiscent of the Indian 'curry' style, however a little more subtle in flavour. The spinach-based Sabsi Tschalau is a personal favourite. In terms of decor, the place is more than pleasing with a successful blend of modern world-scene and traditional Afghani. For those disposed to dreams of the east, the left room from the entry trades a little western comfort for a more authentic cushion lined eastern feel. For me, a good choice in a town that is seriously under-catered in authentic ethnic cuisine. In fact, does anyone know of even a Chinese restaurant here which serves... well... Chinese food?
Posted by: "Duskenlite" at 3:14 am on 19.Jul.2004Went on Saturday night with a party of 8 and got seated in the groovy room (wrap around couch with lots of pillows). Service was spotty, but the food was excellent so who cares! I had the grilled turkey which was served with lovely flat bread and a salad. Very authentic tastes with excellent dipping sauces (the green one will make steam come out your ears while the red one is lightly spicy with a delicious sweet accent). I tried my fiance's spinach rice (good) but the veggie side dishes were not that great (you get your choice of eggplant (boring taste) spinach (too much cardammon) and potates (think this one was best). Overall a great place to go, especially with a group so you can share a big ole' hooka pipe and chill out. Would definitely go again! :*)

Posted by: "andrew" at 1:58 pm on 8.Jan.2006the food is excellent and the restaurant is nicely decorated and has cosy corners to sit in.
Posted by: "Mercedes" at 11:04 am on 19.Oct.2006We went last week with our company and the atmosphere was great, food fantastic (Dopiaza had good portions), service could be better organised. The lamb meat was so tender! Dopiaza is normally spicy hot and I ordered it extra hot, thinking that normally what Bavarians call hot is not really hot - man, the tears were rolling down my cheeks!! LOL) Have just found out that they have a second restaurant in Schwabing: Victor-Scheffel-Str.23 (corner of Belgradstr.) Tel: (089) 397677 You can take the Tram numbers 27 & 12 to Kurfürstenplatz or U3/U6 to Münchner Freiheit.
Posted by: "HartlepoolLad" at 6:39 pm on 8.Dec.2006Hmmm... we were totally disappointed with this second restaurant (later found out that today was their opeing night so we had a *little* understanding). If you think service was disorganised in the first one, you should have seen tonight! :} Took ages to get a table even though we had reserved. Took ages to get a menu and order drinks. Different waiters serving the same tables and not knowing what the other was doing. I guess this is typical of "family" businesses... so my boyfie says anyway. Lentils and potatoes were undercooked. In the end we were so frustrated and fed up that we couldn't wait for dessert. After some negotiation with the manager though, he *did* reduce our bill from EUR 56,- to 25,-. Hope they manage to resolve their teething problems :)
Posted by: "HartlepoolLad" at 12:48 am on 9.Dec.2006Wow, what great food, been now 4 times here, and have always enjoyed my meals and the service is good. Such a wonderful range of spices in the food, and the meat is always tender.
Posted by: Carm at 11:48 pm on 23.Mar.2007Has anyone eaten at the new one (since the opening evening comment above)? Is it as good. I was told that it is the same menu and the restaurant is a bit larger. Any comments on the new location in Schwabing? Thanks
Posted by: "babs" at 8:56 pm on 25.Mar.2007the new restaurant in schwabing is also very nice. Nice decoration - nice ambiente and very good food....
Posted by: "orientchic" at 7:31 pm on 27.May.2007I have not been to the original restaurant, but I was very impressed with the one in Schwabing. Delicious food, no problems with service, although they were not that busy - even though it was a Saturday night. Would thoroughly recommend it.
Posted by: pcyses at 8:44 pm on 30.May.2007Hi, went there yesterday and I just have to say I was disappointed. Very different atmosphere from the original place and very different type of service. The waiter was very aggressive, rushed us (a party of 10)to order food and drinks quickly. When checking our table, again aggressive... Food was kinda ok but for the price I was expecting much more quality. There was barely chicken in the narendj palau I ordered though taste was good. I would go back to the original one where I had experienced really good food and friendly service but definitely not to that place.
